Pitch-by-pitch vs one-pitch?

Curious- which do you use and why? I'm using one-pitch but my pitchers - even Felix Hernandez- keep giving up lots of walks and hits. Disproportionate to what I feel they should be giving up according to their real life counterparts...

I use one pitch myself. But there are times (fast runners on base) where pitch by pitch can be useful. At one point I'd use pitch by pitch and use the Pitch Around button when the count was like 0-2. I'd also make my weaker hitters take 3-0 pitches sometimes as well. But I came to the conclusion it took too much time to play a game that way.

One-pitch, for speed. And if you don't like the way a guy is performing you can always improve his ratings if you are in COmmissioner mode.

Ditto. Sometimes I take a few pitches here and there to see if I can set up a hit-and-run, but mostly one pitch. Just can't spend 45mins to play one game.

Do you one-pitchers find yourselves doing 'Pitch' or 'Pitch Around' more often?

I'm one pitch. I rarely pitch around almost never hold runner. I only go to one pitch for certain batting situations

As a one-pitch player, I choose 'pitch' almost always except maybe to get to the pitcher or to specifically pitch around a guy with a base open and two outs. I 'hold runners' 95% of the time with a runner on 1st or 2nd; only exception is if the runner is clearly not a threat.

It seems to me that choosing "run and hit" is more akin to giving the steal sign than giving the steal sign......

One pitch unless the at-bat is a special one.

Run and hit gives me a significantly lower success rate than straight stealing. It makes stealing awkward in by book. I'd really like to 'green light' a runner so that I didn't have to launch into pseudo-one pitch mode. One pitch could really use a few tweaks, but it's better than playing 45 minute games.

I use 1 pitch as it completes games faster and I have never been convinced that there is a benefit to Pitch by Pitch....

Run And Hit really is giving the steal sign in OOTP. Steal is telling the batter to take while giving the baserunner the green light. I never use steal myself.

One pitch until someone gets on second or third, then I switch to pitich by pitch. Sometimes, I'll switch to pitch by pitch when a great hitter comes up against a great pitcher. Like to slow things down then.

I wish this were true. Run and hit gives a much lower SB success % though. IMO it's telling the runner to go, even without a good jump.

Right, I think 'run and hit' is more for sending the runner on a 3-2 count with 1 out.

Absolutely, this is what I meant by the steal sign as opposed to the the green light. I personally just don't like to make my guys take pitches - unless the opposing starter is crusing in the middle innings and not throwing very many pitches.

One pitch......unless there is a great base stealer on base then I go to pitch by pitch.
