Draft Strategy
As a personal matter, I was wondering how all of you value intangibles vs. potential in your draft strategy. What increase in WE+INT total would be enough to make you choose someone with, say 1 point lower potential in each of the three pitching ratings (all on a 10-point scale)? How do you weight intangibles when considering a player's future value?

I run my fictional league team the way I would want my favorite reallife sports team to be run. No babies. No prima donnas. Smart cookies that want to get better. So I always look to draft the kids that have WE and INT ratings that are in the double digits for me (scale: 1-20). If they flame out as prospects I know it wasn't for lack of trying or listening to a coach.
I don't know if there is a set answer to this question. So, I'll just quote the game: "It's your game; play it your way!"

I agree, I usually try to avoid guys with bad WE like the plague. INT is important too. But I just won't draft anyone with bad WE.

I value INT and WE, but I value ratings a lot more.
If I had the choice between a 7/7/7 (scale of 1-10) pitcher with an INT and a WE of "1" and a 6/6/6 pitcher with an INT and a WE of "10" it would be a tough call. |

I value INT and WE very highly. Once, however, I drafted a kid first overall (in a first year player draft) despite him being below 30 (out of 100) in both WE and INT. He went on to win the MVP at age 25 (but I was fired so it wasn't on my team :P)

I usually draft on potential the first couple of rounds and then once I get into the lower rounds where players are more of a long shot to make it I highly value WE and INT.

If you are using scouts, I think the WE and INT are more important, because the POT ratings may be illusory.....
