I would probably bat .077 in a baseball league that uses a basketball instead and where pitches are thrown at 50 MPH

Oh !
I just noticed that I have been promoted to 'Rookie Ball' and am not a 'Bat Boy' any longer! Warm fuzzies! And that reminds me of the first guy I promoted up to the the big league club and then i saw the beaming smile on his profile page. I actualy got goose bumps. How stupid is that? :-) Last edited by ssstump; 07-29-2009 at 07:47 PM. |

First one I ever saw throw one was Ramon Martinez. Crazy looking pitch that handcuffed guys. Glen Davis, with the Astros at the time, yanked one out and he attributed it to playing a lot of softball.

I NEVER swung at a pitch and walked every time. I was only allowed to bat once a game and play an inning or two of RF. One game near the end of the season, the coach put me in RF. In the bottom of the inning, I was due third in the order and I was looking through the bats for a stick. The coach said, "What are you doing?" I said, "Getting a bat." He said, "What do you need THAT for?" In the last game of the season, the coach who was at third base, called time out when I was at the plate with no one on base and motioned me over to confer, "I want you to swing. I don't care where the pitch is, SWING!" So, I did and fouled it off the screen. The coach hollered, "That's the way! Same thing, now!" Second pitch, I popped up to second, but the kid dropped the ball and I was safe at first. The coach ran across the diamond and hugged me, and I was so happy-silly, I didn't know what to do..... He gave me a hit in the scorebook.... |

At the end of his career Ross Grimsley threw a 50mph breaking ball when he was with the Indians. It wasn't a blooper pitch per se, although it did drop about three feet in the strike zone. It was a lot of fun watching a guy like Dave Parker take a full swing at it and miss. I don't recall anyone ever hitting anything other than a foul ball or weak grounder on it. Grimsley's problem by that time was that his fastball was only around 80, and well, you can figure out for yourself that big league hitters didn't have too much problem lighting that one up.
