I Want A 50 MPH Curveball Tosser
Have you seen the minor league player that can throw a 50 mph curve ball?
I can't even recall his name or team, but I saw em in the Minor League All Star game on television a couple of weeks ago. Fastball - Zing - 90 Fastball - Zing - 91 Slider - Swoosh - 83 50 MPH Curve - !doh Looks like ur grandma could knock it outa the park, and they mostly don't even take a swing at it! This is Off-Topic but IRL i can throw an Eephus Pitch.
Poorly, but i CAN throw it .It was more effective before Ted Williams cheated the children who wanted to throw it. Last edited by bubba22plus; 07-28-2009 at 02:45 PM. |

I'm available for a reasonable salary, by the way. I imagine I throw even slower than 50mph, so prepare a signing bonus in accordance with my talents.

It's R.J. Swindle and he's currently with the Brewers. Struck out a guy last night with that pitch.

I dont know the speed but in high school, I was pretty good at throwing those big, slow, looping curves. It start out shoulder high and break down to the ankles (though it might have been lack of speed.
). But, I always had good breaking stuff...........unfortunately my fastball was.....well....an oxymoron. Whenever I hear the term sloppy 80-mph high school fastball. I say I wish...

I just watched that Brewer's game.
Nationals hitter, Willinghan, blasts two grand slams in back to back trips to the plate in the 5th and 6th inning. Both of em on the first pitch thrown at em. Then Swindle comes in and strikes Willingham out looking with his moss growing on it curve ball. How cool! |

Greinke used to screw around with throwing one every once in a while. Slowest I saw was 52 I think.
Soria still throws one occasionally, usually it's in the upper 50s though. That's just rude to the hitters. |

My fastball was clocked at 68 MPH in college.....
My nickname (besides Questdog) was Sausage Arm..... I tried like heck to hit 70 on the gun, but could not.... I think we had the slow gun though....

Lol ya'll.
That's funny stuff. From the little I have seen though, even when Swindle throws em the 'glacier ball' and they just watch it for a strike, they still smile though. :-) |

I've never had my pitch speed measured, but I'd bet it's <50.

Maybe you 'slow' pitchers could copyright a new pitch.
Streaks in at 60, but then completely runs outa gas right over the plate and drops straight down to thunk off the plate. Hehe - Just teasin ya. I'm the guy that had a Zero batting average my second year of Little league. :-) Unfortunate incident catching in the middle of January for the horse sized pitcher that lived next door to me and could throw harder than any kid oughta be allowed to throw. Zero degrees - Hunkered down in the snow - Fastball - Never even touched my glove before it hit me square on the nose. My batting average went right to pot afta that. :-( Thank God for computer games, eh? |
