The OTHER Ballpark in Arlington (VA not TX)
Commissioned in 1936 under FDR's Works Project Act, this stadium is one of the most recognizeable public works from the WPA era. Originally called "Union Stadium", the ballpark was renamed "U.S. Armed Forces Stadium" as a tribute to America's returning servicemen following WWII. The stadium, built on an elevated prospect near the National Cemetary in Arlington has an outfield view unmatched by any other park in big league baseball - the entire vista of the nation's capitol city. During the most recent renovation of the stadium, there was some talk of placing a new large scoreboard and video screen in the outfield but it was decided to use smaller scoreboards placed farther within the stadium in order to preserve the one-of-a-kind view. The stadium features 4 cannons in center field and the flags of all five branches of the Armed Forces. The cannons are fired only once during the year - between the games of the traditional 4th of July doubleheader. Another tradition at the stadium is the playing of classic Sousa marches such as "The Washington Post March," "Stars and Stripes Forever," or "The Thunderer" as fans leave the ballpark following games. The stadium orginally seated only 27,000 fans but the extensive remodeling has doubled the capacity while retaining the classical look of the original design.

Think you could do something like a sandlot field???(Besides the "Field of Dreams" one) I would love to see something like that. But what you do is awsome keep up the good work and i can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Slight Flag alteration
Since we don't want any surly Marines out there, I separated the services flag array and lined them up to be more individually visible. L-R they are Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and POW-MIA flags. I didn't know if there was some protocol for the arrangement of the service branches -didn't mean to slight any - just tried to arrange the colors to have some contrast. The bitmap linked in the first post has also been updated.
![]() I'm going to try and get my website updated with all the new stadiums next week. I'm also planning to add the text descriptions and individual park factors. I probably won't be making any more stadiums for at least a week or longer. I appreciate all the requests and will continue to work on them - but can't probably get to all of them. Hope you will understand. Thanks for the encouragement you guys give me in your posts - I appreciate all the generous comments. Last edited by Teflon Skies; 04-27-2003 at 10:06 PM. |

Teflon -
Great Job...been looking for a good D.C. stadium. BTW, where can I get that DC logo from behind home plate? I guess I've been looking for a stadium and a logo too for D.C. Now if I could just settle on a team nickname. ![]() Wrigley |

Another winner, Teflon.
Is there any chance you could post a copy without the players and umps like the rest of your set? If so, thanks a bunch. |

Hammer - I started adding the players because of comments by another forum regular. Personally, I don't much care for them because the in-game player overlays cover them up, anyway. I was just trying to be accommodating.
I'd be happy to post the stadiums as before without the players. I'd like to hear from the forum regulars, though, either 'yay' for players or 'nay' for no players. 50-50 results or a lack of responses will probably result in no players being shown. |

Personally, I would note for no players or anything else on the field. Just a blank, beautiful stadium.
Teflon...your work is truly astounding. You get better with each one. What I wouldn't give for your abilities...or at least to have you create a custom set for my fictional league ;-) Actually, by sitting back and letting your work come to the forum, you've already created stadiums in a bunch of the cities that I use (Washington DC is one of them, as is New Orleans, Las Vegas, etc.). If I wait long enough, I'll have it! Thanks again for your tireless, amazing efforts.
