Mac license issue
I just started the game up and it wants me to re-enter the license. so i put my license in and it says: "The product was not activated. Please check the serial number was entered correctly and try again. Game will run in demo mode." The problem is that I have entered the proper serial #/license and it still won't work.
I am using mac, and the game version is 10.1.14. is this a known issue? Quickly checked through the form here and didn't notice anyone having the same problem with mac. Thanks |

Mac OS X 10.4.11 OOTP version 10.2.16 I'm about to try using my second license to see if I can unlock things and I'll report back with what I find.

Yeah everything is still greyed out on mine too. When i look in the serial number file that is saved in the game folder it still is registered as the one I originally licensed with. Im wondering if it is a pisd problem.

Using my second license did, indeed, get me into the game. But now I suppose I'll need to go through the PISD unlicensing dance to get the locked one unlocked so that if it happens again I can do this sub-out thing.
I guess the Mac licensing thing isn't quite solved. The main thing, though, is to keep both licenses handy and make sure you hit PISD to unlock them as soon as you determine that one is locked.

The bummer is that the PISD guys seem to need to be awake to make it happen, and since they're in the UK you'll probably have to wait until tomorrow to get unlocked. It's annoying as hell, but hey, at least we even have OOTP on the Mac. It's a great game and I'm thankful I get to play it, licensing issues and all. Hang in there, Phillies_WFC_2008.

And now for a little more on how I wound up having a license locked...
I don't recall if I had rebooted since the last time I ran OOTP, but the machine had certainly slept in the interim. So when I launched the game around 6pm CDT I had to relicense - no worries, I'm used to this routine. I poked at the game a bit and then closed it. I then put the laptop to sleep and ran some errands. When I got back to the machine a little later (7:30 pm CDT, though I doubt that matters) I was asked to re-license again. And so I tried with my primary/first license and ran into the situation described above. Again, the immediate solution was to quit the game, launch it again, relicense using my second license, and then contact PISD to request that my first license be unlocked. I'm in the game now and everything's cool. Until I sleep my machine again, I suspect.

Hey man thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I'm not too worried about the second license, since I do not own more than one mac lol. But I will email them to unlock it eventually.
I ran the game earlier today and it worked, but then at some point installed the mac updates (firmware etc...), so I am wondering if maybe that caused it. But if you didn't install updates in the time frame you mentioned above, then I suspect that isn't the cause. |

I have no problem with licensing, sleeping, reboots, etc. So, obviously, I'm puzzled about these problems. I admit to not fully understanding how the licensing system works in OOTP10, so don't know what to suggest.
I have a conventional G5, not a laptop. I'm always connected to the internet. My computer routinely goes to sleep. I have rebooted the computer. I have no licensing issues, and haven't had any in some time. The OOTP application on the Mac is susceptible to being damaged. I had thought that was old news, but based on some recent reports, I think it may still be true. There are some hidden files, including a license file. Possibly these are getting damaged. Possibly putting a lot more information about your configurations, where you have the game installed on your computer, etc., your internet connections, might provide some clues. |

If that doesn't work, or you don't feel comfortable trying to do that, then the only other thing I can think to do, is to contact PISD Paul, and see if he is knows the best way to get your licensing situation back to what it should be. At this point, I'm not inclined to think it's a bug per se, but something that has gone haywire in your specific installations. |

My system info (which hasn't changed since my original round of reports, but hey, better to have it here than to make people go looking for it)...
If I wind up with enough free time tonight I'll do the uninstall/reinstall dance again. Note to self (and others): Be sure to unlicense the game before uninstalling.

Another possibility:
There is a hidden License-related file that is also stored on your computer. I do not know exactly what this is, but my guess is that this is the game checks more routinely when you launch the game. Perhaps your OOTP application has lost track of where that license is located. If you have moved OOTP files/folders around, that might be related. Just a shot in the dark. |

Exciting developments...
1) There's an uninstaller app? Really? Weird. I didn't even notice that a folder had been created in /Users/Shared that contained such a thing. Previous uninstalls I've done have all been of the "traditional" Mac "drag the app to the trash and be done with it type. I've run the uninstaller now, so we'll see if that makes a difference. 2) There's an entire hidden folder (/Users/me/.Out of the Park Developments) containing all kinds of stuff, including old OOTP 9 data, located in my home directory? How odd. I think Steve P referenced this back during my previous troubles, but I misunderstood him and thought he was telling me there were hidden files in the non-hidden Out Of The Park Developments folder in my /Users/me/Documents directory. Ah well, live and learn. I've deleted this entire structure and we'll see if that makes a difference, too. 3) Somewhere along the way I forgot that I had the pre-patch fixit thing that PISD Paul had knocked out for us Mac folks, um, pre-patch. I've trashed that as well, just to be sure. 4) For the record, I've never moved any of the OOTP files or folders. I've always run with the default install locations and that sort of thing. So while I'm willing to buy that the app/license check tool/whatever is getting confused, I can say that it's not because of moving files. All of this said, uncovered, deleted, and addressed, I'm now about to download and do a fresh, clean install. Fingers crossed. I'll report back either way. Oh, and in case the PISD folks see this - I had to go request a license unlock again. Sorry. I know the system is for emergencies, but trust me when I say I didn't get into the position of needing to use your unlock tool by choice

And now we have the freshest of fresh installs. I don't know if I'm imagining it or not, but the app feels faster.
In any case, I've started, closed and started again several times and things seem cool. I'll have to put the machine to sleep and do a restart a couple of times each before I'll really be able to determine if this time was the charm. But I'll report back either way in a day or so with whatever news I have.

I had them unlock the one license and replied to their email asking if anyone had looked into it or not, but they haven't gotten back to me on that yet. But the game is working fine.
Before the unlock I downloaded and installed the latest version. Hopefully now everything will be fixed permanently. |

One little victory...
My machine has slept 4 or 5 times since last night and I've logged into it as two distinct users. I was just able to launch this nice fresh copy of OOTP 10 without being told that my license had expired. Yay!
Of course, one time doesn't necessarily mean anything, since I had a few successes before this last round of trouble. Still, it's a good sign. I'll keep seeing how things go and I'll report back with whatever results I encounter. Thanks to everyone for listening to me walk my way through these issues.

So far, so good. Multiple sleeps for the laptop (although I don't think I've done a restart yet) with no hassle.
One thing that did come up - and this is probably by design, but it kind of sucks for the way I use my machine - was that when I was at work yesterday, where I seldom launch OOTP, I tried to start the game and was told that the license had expired. I suspect this was because I had a (wildly) different IP address since I use DHCP to get my IP address and work and home are rather distinct. I could be wrong about that, of course, but when I tried launching the app from home (with no changes at all) OOTP opened right up without complaining about the license at all. So that's my take on it. The licensing system doesn't much care if you have a net connection after you connect once, but if you connect again with a (significantly) different IP address then PISD barks at you. Again, this is probably by design and isn't necessarily likely to affect that many people - though anyone who travels with a laptop much would probably run into it eventually. Thus ends today's supposition and expermentation. My theory that OOTP is a badass game with some hinky licensing troubles on the Mac is closer to proven

It seems like everyone is functioning at this point, so I'm going to go ahead and close this thread down. I know that Paul has a few more tweaks for the Mac licensing in store for the next patch, so hopefully that will improve things even further.
Thanks everyone for your patience! Steve
