Charleston is an above-average team with upward mobility First, I'm cheating a bit by posting this here. Our league won't be converting from OOTP 8 to 9 for another week, but I think that's close enough to start posting in the OOTP 9 Online Leagues forum. View it as a chance to get in on the ground floor of our transition to the new platform. ![]() The Charleston Statesmen are looking for a new owner. This is a great situation to get yourself into. Whereas openings usually occur with teams in need of rebuilding, Charleston is an above-.500 team with lots of room to grow. They made the playoffs in 2007 and finished 87-75 last year (good for 3rd place in the Dixie division). Great pitching has been the hallmark of the Statesmen. The ace of the staff is the wildly talented 24-year-old Dean "Fate" O'Monahan. Young, cheap and under control of the team for another four years, he's an amazing piece to build around. Unfortunately the staff took a hit when some high-profile members departed in free agency. Fortunately the team is well-positioned financially to make a free agency splash of their own. This cash surplus was thanks in large part to a 100% sellout of all Statesmen home games, indicating that a business-savvy incoming owner could get away with raising ticket prices. If this wasn't enough, Charleston's farm system is one of the strongest in PEBA (Baseball America ranks it #3 in the league). The Statesmen have used astute trades (1B Yong-zhan Hu, LF Edgardo Sánchez) and clever drafting (SS Silas Boone, 3B Ralph Gunther) to build an impressively powerful minor league system top-to-bottom. There's a pipeline here that will feed the major league club for years to come. The PEBA has been fortunate to collect a great group of owners who are competitive yet social, and we'd expect the same from any newcomer. We particularly value the kind of owner who enjoys posting in our forum and sharing original articles with the rest of the league. There is a certain time commitment expected; while not at all overwhelming, it's important to us that you'll be able to attend to your new team. We do prefer incoming owners to own a copy of the game. We'd love to hear from you! To apply for the Charleston ownership position, fill out the form on our website. If you'd like more info about the Statesmen or the PEBA in general, contact me and I'll provide you with whatever you need.

Open call for interested owners Interested in getting involved in a stable, dynamic online league? One that's built around a large, well-developed fictional universe? One that really cares about bringing its teams and players to life through owner-submitted articles? One with passionate owners and an active forum? If so, the PEBA is interested in getting to know you! While we don't have any openings at this moment, we'd like to get a feel for owners out there who are looking for that perfect league and share our passion for fictional sim baseball with an emphasis on creative writing and the social side of the experience. The PEBA is a league that encourages owners to get involved and invested. We don't believe that managing an online OOTP team has to be a rote, mechanical experience. Rather than rushing to the finish line, we sim at a slow, steady pace and fully enjoy the process, taking time to build the fiction of our league and build relationships between owners as we go. If this sounds like the kind of experience you're looking for, I encourage you to get in touch with me through our website. We'd like to learn about you, so be sure to fill in a little info about yourself in the message box. I'll respond to applicants promptly and get you up to speed on what's happening in the league. We look forward to hearing from you!

The Arlington Bureaucrats are looking for a new owner. Arlington (based in Arlington, VA, not Arlington, TX!) has been a successful PEBA franchise. They've finished above .500 in each of their seasons, making the playoffs last year. 2009 hasn't been as kind to the 'Crats; they've started out just 16-29. But with a young and talented pitching staff, cash on hand and prospects in the pipe, there's no reason a new owner couldn't turn things around in a hurry. Pitching is the strength of the 'Crats. Víctor "Alibi" Matos is one of the premiere pitchers in the PEBA. He leads the league in BB/9 (0.68) and K/BB (13.00). A better ace you could not ask for. The front office is hoping two young starters - Ronald Workman (22) and Michael Bender (21) - can return to their previous season's form. Both pitchers were magnificent in '08 before struggling this year, but talent and youth are on their side. If the lackluster offense can provide a lead, the stellar bullpen will usually seal the deal. An interested, loyal fan base helps keep the 'Crats coffers filled. With over $6M in cash on hand, there's wiggle room for a new owner to come in and make some moves. Fans have been turning out despite the poor start to the season and relatively high ticket prices ($22), suggesting there's room for growth in that area. The PEBA's 2009 Amateur Draft will be held this weekend. This is an excellent opportunity for an incoming owner to place his stamp on the 'Crats as well as to meet and socialize with our owners (many of our owners select their players live in our chat room - a great time is had by all). The organization already boasts some impressive young talent, including 3B David Teague, C Larry Brown (a great 8th round find in the '07 draft), 2B Mitchell White and 3B António Carbezola. If you think you'd be up to overseeing the 'Crats draft, I will happily provide you with whatever assitance I can to get you up to speed quickly. To apply for the Arlington ownership position, fill out the form on our website. If you'd like more info about the Bureaucrats or the PEBA in general, contact me and I'll provide you with whatever you need.

As a quick glance at my signature will show, I'm a long-time member of PEBA, having been with my team since the inaugural season. I could gush for paragraphs about how much I love this league, but instead I'm going to encourage prospective members to check out two links:

Well, well... it's been quite a long time since I had to pop into this thread! Over half a year, to be exact. All kinds of fun things have been happening since then, not the least of which being a move to a brand-new and considerably faster server (which necessitated relinking this entire thread). The new Charleston owner carried his team to an extraordinary 111-win season last year. The new Arlington owner has brought a plethora of technical advancements to our league. Oh, and the 'Crats just shipped off ace Víctor "Alibi" Matos to the Statesmen for 3B prospect Ralph Gunther, both players featured earlier in this thread.
We've been fortunate to have an extremely stable base of ownership (not to mention a wonderful group of guys). Today, though, we finally have an opening. Before I get to it, I should note that the PEBA is still an OOTP 9 league and will remain so at least until our upcoming offseason. I know we've got some OOTP X-only candidates on our waiting list; we'll be waiting for you upon conversion. ![]() Our opening is with the Kalamazoo Badgers franchise. Kalamazoo is a team that's perpetually been on the cusp of big things but hasn't quite been able to make the push into big-time success. In their inaugural season, they won 100 games but were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. The Badgers slid to 92 wins in 2008, not good enough to qualify for the postseason. They again missed the playoffs last year despite winning 89. This year they sit at 35-33; only a .515 winning %, yet only 1 game behind Great Lakes Division-leading Crystal Lake. Clearly there's talent on this roster. Without a doubt, the headliner is SP Er Hang. This brilliant Taipei native signed as a foreign free agent prior to the 2008 campaign. He had made the big league club by season's end, breaking in as a member of the bullpen. In 2009 he took over a starter's role and never looked back. His record since becoming a starter is 24-12, with an ERA near 3.00. On the offsensive side of things, 1B John Collins and 2B Brett Hurst lead the way. SS Raúl García is a darling of the scouts and possesses blazing speed but hasn't yet turned himself into a big-time big leaguer. And then, of course, there's the monster-in-waiting: big, bad 2B Joel Swedlove, passing time at AAA Grand Rapids by terrorizing Global Baseball Brotherhood pitchers. With Hurst entrenched at second, Swedlove may have to break in at third base. One way or another, his time has just about come. There will be some holes to fill. A rash of injuries has just struck the Badgers. RF Álex Martínez, DH Sixto Rodríguez and backup OF Luis Flores have all recently been lost to injuries that will sideline them for extended periods of time. An incoming owner will have to tap the farm system, explore various trade avenues and/or hit the free agent market to cover for these losses. Luckily, with the PEBA being a large and active league, there are a number of possible courses for you to take. To get started with your application, contact me through our website. I will send you a mailing explaining our league and how you can get involved.

Looks like we picked the wrong week to stop drinking... err, the wrong week to have an opening. The OOTP X release mania has a lot of people on the hunt for OOTP X leagues. We won't be converting for a few more months, but I'm sure there are still a lot of you who own both 9 and X. This is a nice opportunity to get in to and integrated with an established OOTP 9 league that's on its way to OOTP X. It doesn't hurt that the available team is competitive; after our latest sim, the Badgers are sitting just 3 games out of 1st in the Great Lakes Division.
Get involved now, lead the Badgers to postseason glory, and then join us as we transition our league to OOTP X in the upcoming offseason!

Hey y'all, it's the Imperial League president in the PEBA stopping by. I know it may be tempting to join a shiny new OOTP X league (and I certainly understand!) but I urge you to give the PEBA a good, long look. We're an established league with a highly active and stable membership, and you just can't beat the writing quality you'll find in the PEBA-verse. We're just as OOTP X-bound as everyone else (especially since our commish was on the beta team!), so don't let that hold you back. Stop on by our forums and find out what you could become a part of!

Curse you, OOTP X! Actually, curse our own bad timing. Opening week for the new version of the game is not the best moment for an OOTP 9 to experience an opening. As such, we're still looking for someone to step up to the plate and claim the Kalamazoo Badgers. I'm not giving up the hunt! I know there are some excellent baseball minds patrolling these forums; it's just a matter of connecting witht he right one. And of course our league is headed for OOTP X in a few months as well.
While our hunt goes on, please enjoy this animated interview with Kuwana Steel Dragons (fictional) owner Anthony Esposito. (True) Owner Alan Ehlers - who also maintains the outstanding Kuwana fan website DragonBlog.com - created this video through Xtranormal.com. You can pay for the premium service, but there's plenty you can create for absolutely no charge. Some really fun, creative possibilities open up with this!

I've been a part of this league since the 2009 season. I must say this league is a blast with great all-around owners and a dedicated commish.
Some stuff that sets this league apart (in my mind): 1. Feeder leagues! (that means incoming drafts actually have college/hs stats) 2. Whole baseball universe (you got AI controlled leagues all around the world including the human controlled Japanese league) 3. Active writing based league (this may be a turned off for some but I find it fun to read articles written by others whether it be a fictional story or statistical analysis) 4. Live amateur draft (need I say more?) 5. Live winter meetings (that means real time trades during the meetings!) 6. Earn points for writing (you can use your earned points to upgrade your stadium, send your player to winter league for improvement, and much more!) Although he is no longer with the team (career ending injury ), I leave you with a look at the Badgers' uni

The Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance and our sister league, the League of the Rising Sun, are interested in hearing from you! We're a couple months away from converting to OOTP X. Until then, the PEBA needs a caretaker for one of its franchises. It's not essential that you own OOTP 9, though of course it's helpful. You will have the option of taking over the team full-time upon our conversion, so this is a perfect opportunity to stake your claim to a PEBA team. Interested parties should contact me through our website.
