How do you do contraction?
Ok so this is a follow up to my poll. I have taken the results of it and decided to go with the top 4 teams. The losers are Florida,Kansas,Oakland, and Washington.
So now i'm looking for advice on how to contract these teams. What does everyone do with the players and when should I get rid of the teams. Thanks for all the help on the poll and with this. |

When you delete the teams all players automatically become FA's.
You can delete them after the WS or preseason, whichever you like. DO NOT forget to generate a new schedule after deleting them. BTW - the top 4 vote getters in your poll were Tampa, Florida, Washington, and Kansas City, not Oakland. Last edited by Bluenoser; 07-14-2009 at 06:43 PM. |

As far as my poll there where 2 options for oakland,my mistake, and 3 ppl voted twice on there for both oaklands. So in the end oakland still had more votes then tampa. |

In my opinion you could either allow dispersal of the contracted teams' players through free agency (you might have to artificially boost the remaining teams cash, not sure) or through a manual dispersal draft. If you did a dispersal draft, you'd probably also have to manually correct each player's contract to match what they had with their old team prior to contraction.
To me the dispersal draft would most fair, but also the most work - you'd have to run the draft yourself acting as GM for every team and trying to to what's best for each team, then manually move the players to their new teams and manually change their contracts. The FA method would be easiest, but also could really screw with your league because the teams with the most cash would have an advantage, unless you somehow leveled the field.

MLB actually did consider a contraction a few years back with the unstated goal of reducing players contracts. So, if you want to be Machiavellian about it, you could delete the teams with the worst financials and let the market take care of itself.

I just let my players become free agents and bumped every teams budgets to at least 120million. Then let the signing begin. Just make sure you create a new schedule and then get one that gives you a few days before th eseason starts, players seem to sign quicker and you don't get a chance to reoffer.
To contract the teams, you need to use the game setup / league edit screen and remove the teams from the league. If you're going to let the players go to free agency, I'd make sure you release their minor league affiliates while your at it. |
