Minnesota Twins

What type of results are you guys getting when acting as GM/Manager for the Minnesota Twins, using the 2009 rosters that come with OOTPX?

I'm 56-39, without making any trades or major acquisitions. I lost Mauer for the season, in mid-June. Mourneau is tearing it up - on July 21 and he has a .321 average, 23 HR & 87 RBI's. Gomez' ratings in the game appear too high, which are helping him to .296 average. Crede has been awful, hitting below .200 but with nearly 50 RBI's. Pitching has been excellent, which is why I'm 17 games above .500.

Others?

Twins have a lot of talent in their organization and play in a weak division. Athough IRL the loss of Mauer for the season would crush them its not all that ununusual that some of these young players may develop in a sim. I have seen other seasons done where the Twins dont fair that well so its just random. Gomez and Young are still talented an I dont think anyone is willing to write them off just yet even though Young is getting closer by day.

I've traded away a few players (Delmon Young, Brian Buscher, Scott Baker) and am 3 games over .500 in the first week of June. Joe Nathan has blown 6 saves.....

I've started and stopped three different careers w/ the Twins, never making it more than three seasons before the game's out of whack finances prevent me from trading players and forces me to quit.

Anyway, the first run I barely missed the playoffs the first season. I started horribly, so I traded the only position player that was hitting well (Crede) for a prospect. Crede completely tanked and I got a good young pitcher out of the deal. The team then got hot and I finised a game out of 1st. Next season I lost in the first round of playoffs.

Seecond run I barely missed the playoffs first season, then worked a trade involving Joe Nathan and some prospects for Jose Reyes and made playoffs the second season. Reyes/Mauer/Morneaur 1-2-3 in lineup was very nice

Third run I can't remember because the finances made me so mad I've already deleted it.

Anyway, in all three runs, the Twins have always been competitive. One season Morneau was a terror, but otherwise he was just above average. Mauer hits for a high average, but is injury prone. Liriano has ranged from Cy Young caliber to average. I think the game rates the squad's players as talented and takes them on various development paths. Mauer and Morneau you can count on, the others vary. Oh yeah, Blackburn has always been solid for me.

Buscher to the Reds for two minor leaguers.

Young back to the Rays along with Alexi Casilla to get J. Bartlett back (and a minor leaguer). I'm not impressed with Delmon Young in real life and I was happy to lose his poor defense. In hindsight, I could use him now for a DH to cover all my injuries (realistic injuries).

Baker to the Pirates for E. Hinske who I then traded for a minor leaguer
Baker had a terrible escalating salary all the way through the 2013 season.

I also traded Redmond to the Giants since he was pissed he wasn't starting. I'm trying to build for the future and stay at least in contention. I'm currently 34-27 in first place.

Wow Baker must have fallen apart in a hurry. I would have thought you could have gotten much more for him than Hinske.

I have trading set to hard so that and his horrible contract might be why he was hard to get rid of.

I actually think both Mauer and Morneau are bit underrated in the roster set, esp Morneau. You might say the same for Cuddy and Kubel, as well. Liriano is way overrated; so is Slowey. Baker and Blackburn are underrated.

The Twins focus on "small ball" tends to allow for any statistical model to greatly underrate them. They tend to always outscore their pathegorean run total, and surpass every years Zips etc., projections.

When a team focuses so heavily on unquantifiable aspects of baseball, like hustle, scrappiness (ha!), character, and yes, defense, it makes it difficult for a video game to produce real life results.

I always have great success with the Twins particularly through getting a king's ransom for Nathan.

FWIW, I've never had any problems with the finacials running the Twins.

You never have the problem using the MLB quickstart where most teams are in the red after a year or two and trading becomes impossible because all salaries have to line up perfectly like in the NBA?

Early August, I'm now only 15 games above .500 and have a one game lead in the division...and I now have Mauer, Span, Nathan and Liriano out for the season. I think I need a more realistic injury file!

I just acquired Adam Jones from Baltimore for a top prospect (A.Hicks), Guerrier and Redmond. I know, just what I need...another OF. I'm hanging onto Delmon Young, as his salary is very reasonable. I wish I could find a team that would take Cuddyer's salary, but I don't expect to have much luck with this. I'm also stuck with Punto and his high salary...but, he just accepted an assignment to AAA. If only I could stick Cuddyer back at 3B! Has anyone found a place for Cuddyer or Punto?

I've considered several deals for a SS, but all would require giving up Jones or a starter. I'm not sure I'm ready to pull the trigger on these yet, as Casilla & Harris have held up fairly well in the middle infield.

Download the most recent patch. Seems to have resolved this problem pretty well.

Not in the last MLB quickstart league I tried running. What settings do you use? Owner control budget or full revenue avaliable? Do you increase the max cash avalialbe at all? Thanks.

Did you download the cursed injury file or the non-cursed injury file?

The cursed injury file...obviously!

Seriously, I think I have the "best" one. What/where is the most realistic injury file?

Did you find a solution for the 2009 quickstart financials? I'm having the same issue where nearly all of the teams are in the red and no trades can be made.
