Help me -- Rookie coach here looking for answers

Guys,

I''m coaching a GCL team and my pitchers are getting destroyed on a daily basis. I'm learning the game and haven't paid a lot of attetion to indivudial ratings...yet. I went to look at the ratings of hte pictures that are getting hammered for 5-6-7 runs an inning and when I look at their profile they have ZERO pitches. Is this normal, not even to have a fastball? Will they somehow develop pitches?

I'm at a loss here...an help

thanks,
RAGE

Young guys might not have any pitches of quality when they start out. They SHOULD develop pitches along the way, but they could bust and never develop anything. I'd suggest trying a higher level of minors, maybe. Or just going to the bigs.

Thanks for the response. I though about just starting out in the bigs, but after reading the manual it seemed a little overwhelming so I wanted to getting a taste of the minor leagues and this job was one of only 2 that were offered to me. I can tell you now that the 'taste' of the minors isn't that good...so far. After 33 games my Team ERA is 9.72 and the bullpen is 11.20 ... ouch!

Ouch is right. If you create a major league from scratch using the wizard, it's pretty easy. You can do historical or fictional as well, if you would like.
To simplify things, DON'T add minor leagues when prompted, and the game will let you play with a reserve squad (kind of like a taxi squad in the NFL or the reserves in soccer). That way, you don't have to worry about managing a full minor league system while you learn the interface and so on. It's probably the simplest setup to start with (IMO) ... and you'll get a good, clean roster of players to work with.
Or, if you want to stick with your GCL, in the Manager menu under Options you can select the Play in commissioner mode checkbox and alter as many things as you want. In commissioner mode, you can also apply for any team's managing job and get it.
Good luck.

I started out on OOTP9 and figured the minors was where I needed to be. Unfortunately, being a newbie, I couldn't manage the roster changes that were being dumped on me, especially injuries bringing me down to 3 starters and an exhausted pitching staff. The AI GM was not at all concerned with my roster needs, so it became very hard to field a capable team. I moved onto the majors and have been glad I did, though someday I hope the minor league mangerial issues are corrected and I can get back to Rookie ball and work my way up through the system.

This is just goofy. A pitcher who has no quality pitches would not be playing in professional ball. The issue for professional pitchers is command and develping MORE pitches.
