Inability to make trades

Why is it basically impossible to make trades in the league I started? All of the teams are over budget, and the salaries have to perfectly match in order to make any type of deal. You most certainly cannot your superstars away for prospects or vice versa. That's not the way baseball is, and takes way from the fun of the game. I've been trying to find an option to edit this, but was unable to do so. Is there any solution, or is this the way the game is?

I'm not seeing a trade difficulty option anywhere, it is MLB-modern roster. It seems the budget is the problem, every time I attempt a trade it says it would put a team over budget

The budget restrictions are supposedly fixed in the new patch. I was having the same problem but have yet to download the patch to see if it's fixed.

There has to be some way to fix this. The only financial modifier I see is the financial coefficient, and that does not do anything to increase budget room

to edit trade difficulty, go to game setup < AI options and on the left side there is a drop-down menu labeled 'trading difficulty'. I also like to change 'trading preferences' to 'heavily favor prospects' for realism.

That still doesn't help the budget issue though. About 28 teams are over budget and can't make a trade. There has to be some option to change that..every ootp sim league I used to be in, I would be able to trade whoever I want for whoever i want. this is my first time buying the game, and i'm disappointed.

I'm having a different issue - no team is offering anything relevant for the good players I'm offering. Trade difficulty is average. I'm playing the Pirates - call me a masochist - and trying to deal my top guys (CF McLouth, C Doumit and CL Capps) I'm getting 1 star prospects or nothing but relievers in return.

Doumit is a 3 1/2 star catcher hitting .296. Capps is a 4 star closer with an era under 2 and more strikeouts than innings pitched. McLouth is the worst of the bunch at the moment - only hitting in the .270's - but his age (27) and talent (4 1/2 stars) and reasonable contract ($3.5m) should make him a hot commodity.

Ratings weight is 65%. All three guys have good ratings. Current year stats is at 20% - all are doing respectibly - while previous year is 10 and two years ago is 5%.

It's June. Teams should be circling Pittsburgh like buzzards waiting for the injured animal to die. Instead, I can't get a sniff for my talent.

Any suggestions?

And I've downloaded the newest patch...

Could be the same issue with teams not having the money to pick up those contracts.

Did you restart the league with the patch? If not I don't believe the new financials will kick in until the next season rolls around.

I always get garbage trades offered by the AI and I just reject them all. Once, a team wanted me to give up my 2.5 star starting 3B for two 1 star players who would be career minor leaguers. Another time, a team offered me a 4 star SP making almost 12 mil a year for a 5 star prospect, a 4 star prospect, a 2 star prospect, and cash, and I'm just like 'HELL NO!!!' (by the way i also have trade difficulty on average)

Excellent point WarFisch. I did not restart my season and everyone but a select few teams are underwater (and those teams that aren't have less than a million to play with). Does anyone know if the financials will correct themselves in the offseason? Or MUST you restart in order to get the financials in order?

I started a new league after I installed the latest patch and I'm still having issues about making trades. I can't trade any veteran player for prospects because nobody can afford the contract.

Am I completely missing something here?

They didn't fix it in the patch, and saying otherwise is just absurd.

I am not saying it was fixed, just going by what I have seen around the boards about a new financials file in the patch. If that wasn't directed at me, sorry, but there seems to be an aweful lot of venom around the boards these days. It is getting old.

Here is what I do (and it's not unrealistic):

Sort their entire roster by financials. Find a player with one year left and a similar salary who is rated much lower than the guy you are offering. Find a few prospects and make the deal.

I have trading on Hard. I am the Pirates.

Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the market just isn't there for a player. I got King Felix for about 5 mil a year for two years and nobody wants him. Time of year matters, as well as need.

My feeling is that you can tune this problem away, but not sure about the ramifications.

Does the same problem exist in fictional leagues? This is a game-breaker for me as far as playing w/ real rosters.
