AI making roster moves even with box ticked

Using OOTPX with patch #1.

I have box ticked on Home/Options page to prevent AI roster moves to my team.

When spring training came around the AI moved all players on the 40 man roster to the active roster. Even players out of option years which means (in OOTP) they can't be demoted after spring training unless they clear waivers.

That's the way it works now (as in real life).
Tough to adjust to, but that's how it's programmed.

It is not "as in real life".

In real life players without option years remaining do NOT have to clear waivers to move off the spring training roster back to the minors. By automatically putting all 40-man players on the spring training roster the GM is left with no option in some cases but to irrevocably waive (and therefore risk losing) 40-man players with no option years remaining.

This could be fixed in one of two ways:

1) Not having the AI automatically put all 40-man players on the active roster for spring training and allowing GMs to decide; or

2) Changing the OOTP rules so that players without option years remaining can be demoted after spring training without clearing waivers.

It would also be nice if we could have non-roster invitees to spring training.

Sorry, you are incorrect. This is correctly being modeled in OOTP now. In the past it was incorrect.

Once a player is added to the 40-man roster, the parent club can send him down to the minors on "optional assignment" in 3 separate seasons. You don't need to actually be on the 25-man roster for an option year to be used; being on the 40-man roster in spring training and optioned to the minors before the season is enough to make the season count as an option year. If a player is never sent down, however, he doesn't use an option year.

This is why Out of Options players are so popular in Spring Training.
Clubs begin spring by having their entire 40-man roster in camp, by the end of spring they must set a 25-man Opening Day roster. Those 15 players who don’t make the team because of skill level, experience or positional depth must be optioned to Minor League camp. If they don’t have an option remaining, they must go through waivers or be traded.
Prior to each spring, most if not all Clubs submit a list of Out of Option players to their scouts covering the exhibition games. (For a sample list check out MLB Trade Rumors Out Of Options 2009) The scouts and front office monitor these players closely – evaluating both their skills and chances of making their current team.
Take Josh Anderson for example, at some point this spring the Braves decided they were a better team with Jordan Schafer as their CF. They may have started calling other Clubs searching for a trade partner or Detroit may have contacted them knowing his situation. Either way, the Tigers had been watching him and felt he could make their team better so they made an offer to Atlanta and a trade was consummated.

Hayden Penn for Robert Andino is a great trade of one Out of Option player for another. The Marlins used some infield depth to acquire an arm from the Orioles – and Baltimore felt Andino was an upgrade over Chris Gomez. Win-win.
Jason Hammel loses the battle for the number 5 spot Tampa’s rotation and is traded to Colorado. (he could have been the more tradable asset) On the other hand Jerry Owens loses the CF battle in Chicago and is outrighted to AAA Charlotte.
Out of Option players can force a transaction – whether it’s a trade, waiver claim or outright, something is going to happen.
This is why they receive so much attention in the front office and the media.
