Is it possible in OOTP5 to transfer players between leagues? I thought you could do it with one of the add-ons (Pierre's?) in OOTP4, but believe that's not working in OOTP5 anymore.
Will the import via CSV work for just a few players? If I edit the files and leave only 10 players, will it import only those 10 players to the free agent pool and leave the rest of the league alone? |

I don't think that there is a way to do this currently with OOTP5 even when using the CSV importer/exporter.

You could do it in OOTP4 with Pierre's program. Hopefully he'll update it for OOTP5.

if you wanted to do it via csv you could only do part of the ratings because not all of them are exportable. I have asked Markus several times about this but am unsure what, if anything, will come of it.
All you would need to do is create a player in league A. Go to league B's csv export and copy the lines of the player you want into the league A csv files and remember to change the ID# in the league A csv file to that of the newly created player. GH |

I tried to create a CSV version of the league, then go into the different files and add an entry. I copied the first batter on the players_general.csv file and renamed the player and changed the playerID to 3500, a number which doesn't exist in the league. Then I made the same changes for the batting_ratings.csv and added him to a team in the rosters.csv. I made no changes to the pitching_ratings.csv as he's a catcher. I then tried to import the roster, but the game crashed. I went back in, and the rosters were all empty. I tried to import again from the same CSV files, and it crashed again.
Any ideas? |

a) the player ID you give him needs to be a number in the set you're importing to. It won't just create a new guy for you.
b) don't import roster csv. It screws things up. Create new guys you plan to overwrite in the game and put them on the teams you want or leave them as free agents. Then import the players_general and batting/pitching csv's. You'll have your new guy. GH |

Thanks GH - I used one of the free agents and then rewrote his data, and that seemed to import OK. Thanks.
I'm still a little worried about running it on an existing online league, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks! |

Without reading the board, I (recklessly) tried adding both divisions from a small fictional league as expansion divisions in another. I created new teams and named them, filling the minors so there would be existing slots for the transferred players in the CSV files. That worked well because all the guys being replaced were player #1270 and higher(all consecutive).
As somebody mentioned, it seems that certain data is retained when you import. If player #1665 was a starting pitcher, and I put a 3B's info onto those lines, he shows as a 3B *and* an SP on his general info screen, and pitcher ratings are shown but these are null except for pitching endurance. You can edit the position in-game - as soon as you start scrolling through position player positions, the pitching role disappears & the pitching ratings on the general info screen change to batter ratings. However, the batter ratings dont show up after that. If you click on "batter ratings" while the player is still a "P/3B", the batter ratings DO show. I'll try this without importing roster.csv and see how it works. I'm pretty good with excel, so its not as painful as it sounds, and I already did most of the work. I understand that its not supposed to work. Consider it R&D. |

roster.csv is bad. Avoid it when possible.

Pierre -
Just a thought - does the importer assign a new ID to the imported player, or will it overwrite the existing one? I didn't check this when I played with the importer earlier, but thought I'd ask. Thanks |

I know that I'm creating new ID's but if you replace a team, I think I just removing player from the team but not sure if they will appear as Free agent |

Slick. Works great except the importer does not recognize the highest numbered team. Worked around that by creating an additional division & adding a placeholder "New Team" with a higher number.
Now its just a matter of exporting the player_general file and getting the DOB year right, then taking care of financials and coaches. Glad I hung onto that old OOTP2 league. Thanks, Pierre. |
