OK, this is a major update to the file which I have ben working on virtually all day...
this update corrects almost 65% of the injuries, adds quite a few more descriptive injuries and also adds right/left, finger name(ring, index, middle, little), toe name(big, index, middle, fourth, little), rib name(7th, 8th, 9th, 10th), and upper/lower designations where appropriate. So, no longer will you have a finger sprain. You will have a sprain of the right ring finger. You won't have a bruised toe. You will have a bruise of the left index toe. You won't have a broken rib. You will have a broken 9th rib. You won't have back stiffness. You will have lower back stiffness. You won't have a sore knee, you will have a sore left knee. This basically more than doubled the size of the injury file, so there will be plenty of differing injuries from the original. I also added a few more injuries that were not included in the original such as intercostal strain, broken (various) toes, torn tendon sheath in right/left wrist and a few others I can't remember. There are more I want to add, but I thought since so much got done with the file today I would release what I had. I know I had said I wanted to finish adjusting injury times first before doing anything else, but I after getting almost 60% thru the file, I decided to work on something else due to well, boredom of doing the same thing over and over to be quite honest . Over the next few days I will be adding more injuries and finishing updating the injury lengths. Let me know if there are any descriptors that sound funny to you, as there are some that could have been stated a few different ways. If enough people disagree, I will state it another way... new file to download replaces the file on the first page

That's the main thing, IMO. That file is a huge mess.

This file is great. Injury times seem much more realistic, with most in the 2-3 weeks range, as well as a few serious injuries. All in all a HUGE improvement. I still have a bunch of injuries, but since they are of the 2 week timeframe, are managable. I am still seeing new articles saying a player is hurt with a "2" though. If I go to the player page the injury description is there however. I can live with this, just thought you should know.

At least it wasn't a "3" or a "4."

Not sure if this helps, but Beyond the Box Score had a couple good posts on DL/injuries this month:
Dissecting the Disabled List by Team, Position, Year andInjury - Beyond the Box Score Disabled List Database: Going Under the KnifeAgain - Beyond the Box Score they took a look at data from 2002 to 2008.

I'm not clear on what time range your data is coming from. Which years? Major-league ball only? Are the proportion of injuries in your file equivalent to the proportion of real injury types experienced by major-league ballplayers? Injury Log has clearly delineated these things in his file.
I'm also confused as to whether you're using "normal people" injury durations, or "baseball players" injury durations: you refer to both alternatives but I don't understand which route you've chosen to follow, with the data in your injuries file. Is the purpose of your injuries file to imitate what happened in major-league baseball (over a given stretch of time), or is it to create a "real world" of possibilities? |

Some people in other threads have expressed concern over the number and severity of injuries in OOTPX.
But I'm confused about whether or not this new injury file is a viable replacement for the one currently included in the game. I appreciate the work that went into it, but I do know Satchel did some work on an injury file for OOTP9...

The lines in the new file are in the sequence they are in so that the file can be compatible with earlier versions of OOTP. If you change that sequence, anyone converting an OOTP9 league will suddenly see completely different diagnoses in Player Profiles.

I thought it was pretty clear from what I wrote that it is still being worked on. I'd say currently it's about 60% or so done...

Here's the problem with that.If you click the re-import injury file button, then you'll get the problems with the numbers showing up in the news text.If you just swap out the file without clicking the button, the file will still be imported and you won't get the number issue.Markus has been notified of this situation.

The purpose is to research the injuries listed and find a variety of players that have had the injury, and look at the lengths of time they have been out so there is a more complete profile of the injury. As I said previously, some of the injury min/max times were just ridiculous. Not every baseball player who has forearm inflammation is going to be out 119-120 days with no other option.

Ah,BOO! I thought I figured it out but I guess not.I also had the number thing happen to me too,but I switched the file, didn't re-import and then it worked fine.Hopefully this dosen't become a major issue.
