HOF question...
I just simmed out about 70 years to check things out in a fictional league and I came across a very strange case indeed for a player who had been inducted into the HOF.
Basically the guy was a .280 hitter who had a very long career. He played 19 years in the majors and collected 3,190 hits. Not a great power guy but did have some pop, hitting more than 30 HR's 4 times and 20-29 HR's 14 times---finishing with 447. He hit over .300 4 times in his career---most of his seasons were in the .280's or .290's. He had a career VORP of 530.4. The thing that really puts his candidacy in doubt with me is he was never an all-star, gold glove or MVP in the majors. In fact, he is the only player in the HOF who has 0's in all these categories. Also in looking at his leaderboard appearances, the only one he ever was 1st on was for doubles, and that was twice...2011 with 48 and 2018 with 54. In all other leaderboards, the highest he was ranked was 3rd a few times, but mostly he was 6-10 when he made an appearence at all. He appears to be a classic case of a player who belongs in the "Hall of Very Good", but not in the hall of fame...IMHO the player was just not good enough for that induction...clearly there were many players better than him in his own league during his career...

I understand what you mean but the hall of fame also rewards consistency and going by what you are saying he was consistent. He also had 3000 hits and 447 hrs. The fact that he was able to play that long and stay consistent also should be rewarded with a hall of fame induction.

In OOTP, this guy gets into the HOF on account of the 3000 hits. I do believe he is a borderline candidate, however. Personally, I would vote for him, but I'm more generous than most when it comes to these things.

I just edit the HoF requirements to be unreachable, and induct players myself.

In my case, my season's short enough (94 games) to where the defaults are generally unreachable anyways. |

If you edit the HOF requirements to 0 for everything, it will also not induct anyone, if you want to induct your own HOFers. This is what I do.
