Unhappy After year 1 World Series: "OOTP 10 has encountered a problem and needs to shut down"

Version: 10.0.7
Platform: PC
OS: Windows XP Pro SP 3

Problem: Historical game using neutralized stats: historical rookies imported from OOTP Baseball 10 > stats folder and were originally (folder not moved); 9 round amateur draft set for Dec. 1st, 1901; Use pre-defined draft value for AI box is checked; Retire players according to history is checked; 3 year recalc on: base rookie fielding ratings and pitcher stamina on: Entire Career; auto-adjust LTMs is checked; before 1901 I applied my own LTMs based on some test sims which produced very good results except for errors; I also neutralized the weather.txt file using Garlon's suggestions and edited out CEI (switched 1s to 0s in the 4th number column) due to already having retire according to history on, but nothing else in injury.txt: hope the detail helps! Game sims through 1st season (I doubt it matters, but it's 1901) and stops dead after the World Series and before the offseason every time with the message that ootp 10.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down - every time.

Repeatable: Probably as I have quite a few sims that are at the start of the World Series and it would only be a few sim days until the whole thing goes kablooee again.

Problem Occurs With Other Leagues?: Yes, the problem occurs in all leagues at the end of the World Series and before the offseason.

Thanks for what looks like an awesome game and for all the work you're doing to resolve these issues.

Tom

Hi,

Could you run a league up to the end of the World Series as described, save it and then zip up the .dat files and FTP them up to us as described in http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-files-us.html and we'll see if we can get the same issue.

No idea how to use FTP and instructions page assumes I have some familiarity with FTP, which I do not. I just looked at a You Tube tutorial on it and still have no idea how to use it. I have fire ftp. Don't have time to look at it right now, but some further instructions would help. I know I have to send it to ftp://ootpsupport.com/incoming/ootp/saved_games/ but I have no idea where to send it from or how to set it up. Thanks in advance for your help,

Tom

I have a similar issue with my mail system. Every league has the good old useless vista message "Out of the Park Baseball 10 Has Encountered a Problem" when opening my inbox or getting the pop-up message notifying me of a personal message.

I just reinstalled the game, I'll report back if this helped.

And by all leagues, I mean an import of an OOTP9 league, a fresh start MLB 2009 game, and a fictional league I started.

Reinstall did not fix it. This wasn't always happening, so I'm not sure what could have happened.

I tried starting a new game from scratch and the game booted me out just after the import player process. It had occurred to me that an uninstall/reinstall might be in order and following the instructions I went to my Control Panel and found the eLicense Control folder...only to find that it did not open. So now I have a game that won't start, that I can't unlicense, which I need to be able to do in order to uninstall, in order to reinstall it. To say I'm PISD might be the understatement of the year, but I will remain calm and hope that somebody can help out here.

Update: I managed to get past the end of the year 1 World Series...on my secondary computer. I am still locked out of taking any game I have going past the end of the World Series or starting any new games at all on the faster, more zippity do-dah primary computer. Since all I can do right now is guess, I would say this is a rookie or, in the case of the brand new games example, player database issue, as it occurs right around the time (but not quite...hrmmm) that the first year draftees would be coming into the league in a December 1st amateur draft. Perhaps I scheduled the draft too late? I believe I messed with the path to the database to get the rookies, but I can't remember if I did so before or after getting booted a few times. Further confirmation for this conclusion comes from the fact that I can play in fictional and standard leagues, which of course use a different database, without a hitch. This means that the game itself is not corrupted, just the historical end of it and it seems to centre around the player database.

I am also still locked out of the eLicense Control folder, so unlicensing, uninstalling, dumping everything OOTP 10 related from my 'puter and reinstalling and relicensing (which at this point I would love to do) is not a possibility at the moment.

I realize that it would be easier for you guys to resolve my issue if I could FTP you the file, but as mentioned above I don't know how to do that and your instructions on how to do it are intended for those that have some familiarity with FTP. actionjackson.zip is all zipped up and ready to go to the ootpsupport ftp site, but until I know what I'm doing it's just sitting there collecting digital dust. If you could: a) send me some clear instructions (i.e. FTP for idiots) on how to do it or b) send instructions on how to unlicense, uninstall, reinstall and relicense without having access to my eLicense Control folder or c) send a patch (which would probably involve FTP again), which would unlock or reset the game and take it out of this death loop (if such a patch exists) I would be muchly appreciative.

The brief glimpses I've had of this game have convinced me that it's head and shoulders above the rest of the career sims, now I would just like to get back to playing historical games the way I want to. I promise I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever touch the path to the player database again. I won't even place my mouse pointer anywhere near it. I also realize that you guys are incredibly busy right now, but I would like to resolve this one way or another soon. Thankyou for your time and patience.

Hi Tom, sorry for not responding yesterday. If the file is smaller than 100Mb, there's a site called YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement - send the file to tonybourtonville at googlemail.com (obviously replacing at with @)

Thanks for the alternative Tony. actionjackson.zip has been sent. The file's a little less than 6 MB, so it's plenty under the 100 MB limit. By the way re: not responding yesterday check your post (#2). The time stamp is yesterday at 5:35 AM, so technically you did respond yesterday. Don't be so hard on yourself.

I had this same problem with 9 a couple of times. Sucks that it still apparently exists in 10.

I may very well have inadvertantly brought it on myself with the database thingy. I'll know more when Tony's done with the DAT files.

I get a message about not being able to find the historical database, but that's to be expected as the game came from a different machine. However, I did notice that the database path starts C: Documents and Settings\All Users and I think it should be C:\Documents and Settings at the start

D'oh, my bad. Note to self: Self, don't touch anything to do with paths to databases again. Don't even hover your pointer near them. Thankyou.

Of course, I still can't get into my eLicense Control folder to unlicense the game in order to uninstall it. I guess it's time to contact eLicense Support.

Well my issue seems to be different then, as even fictional leagues error out.

Should we break my posts in here into a new thread?

Actually if you think about it, that kind of makes sense. My error is in the path to the player database, which involves the stats folder for historical leagues. The stats folder is not used for fictional or standard leagues. In those types of leagues the player database is contained in the database folder. Therefore, those types of leagues are not affected by my error.

In your case the error is somewhere in the e-mail function, so that would affect any type of league as e-mail is used in all of them. By all means continue posting here, until the moderators break it off into a different thread. Good luck, I hope it's resolved soon.

Thumbs up Yay!

Issue completely resolved by uninstalling/reinstalling game. Did not have to uninstall license, which is good because that would've been tough. If you want to keep this thread open to help out magnet, feel free, or give him his own. Thanks for all your help Tony.

I'll try another reinstall when I get home tonight. If it doesn't work, I'll start a new thread.
