Its a shame you feel that way as it was quite interesting. How about an exit interview?
Looking back on how things turned out, what do you wish you had done differently? Were there trades you wish you had or had not made? What about free agent signings or not re-signing your own players? Would you setup the league any differently? |

If I were to restart the leauge I'd try to more accurately simulate how the leagues really worked back in those days. No draft. I'd try to better simulate league finances if I used them at all. They're pretty screwed up in OOTP 9. I'm still averaging 15,000 fans a game in the 1950s. That can't be right. I'd also try to better replicate the "reserve clause" used in MLB to prevent free agency, which also means there probably wouldn't be free agency per se if I restarted. There certainly wouldn't be free agent comp. That did keep me from signing some players and it convinced me to let others go as I thought the picks were more valuable then the players.
Would I do anything differently with the team? Not much. I think I was pretty dominant in the first 30 years of the franchise. The last 20 years I seemed to be in perpetual rebuilding mode. Just when I'd think I had a good team, they'd stink and vice versa. Overall my impressions are that it's really hard to win 26 titles in 100+ years. I never posted the end of the 1955 season, but we won 89 games and finished a distant 2nd behind Washington. And they finished way behind NL champs St. Louis who shattered the single season wins record with something like 117. I also learned that the early 20th century was very pitching dominated, so for guys like Hornsby, Cobb, Wagner, etc to put up the career numbers they did is truly amazing. The stats those great early batters put up would be like Jeter hitting .535 every year or ARod smacking 125 homers every season. And I learned that other teams besides the Yankees could be really good for long stretches in a "free market" arena like I had going with full free agency and full amateur drafts every year. Quite a few teams enjoyed a lot of success over these 50+ years.

I'm sorry to see it end as well. You did a great job with this.
I've seen the same thing that you have during my "history" thread. In a free market, other teams are able to sustain success with free agency and a yearly amateur draft. The pitchers in the "deadball" era were helped by the use of foreign substances on the ball, including scuffing it, and also by the huge sizes of some of the ballparks. |

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the whole experience! It helped me with the settings for my own historical replay.

Thanks guys. I'm seriously considering starting a new dynasty in OOTP X using the settings I SHOULD have used in this one to better emulate historic baseball. The new dynasty would also start in 1903 like this one did, mainly because it's the first year of the World Series. I'm deciding between the Reds, the A's, the Giants, the Pirates, or the Dodgers. Which team would you guys be most interested in reading about? The 2 New York teams would maybe hold a little more interest for me since I'm originally from New York and now live in California (closer to the Dodgers).

Such a shame to see this thread go Gollum itd beren great fun comparing it to my white sox dynasty(i'm a couple years behind you), but if you are re-starting my vote goes with the Dodgers.
Also, I don't know if this go agaisnt your rules, but when Babe Ruth comes along, force him into a hitter with the editor, i've had so much fun with him as a slugger from 18 years of age(he hit 1000 home runs in my league!) |

Also, I have OOTP X and am running a historical league managing the Phillies that began in 1901. I have turned off scouting and financials and have player ratings being re-calculated based on three years of real life, neutralized stats. Injuries are set to Very Low (tried them at Low but getting too many injuries). I have a AAA league but if I had to start over, I would eliminate it and just go with reserve rosters. The only house rule I have is that I can initiate only one trade per year and it can't involve more than 3 players in total. Also, if a computer offers a trade, i can either reject it or accept it, no counters. In case of an injury where I don't have anyone on the team that can play that position, I can trade for a player who can play that position but is ranked lower (Reports: Positional Ranking by Position) that the player that was injured. I am through 1904 and am seeing the Pirates win the division easily every year! I have come in 4th, 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd. |

I like some of your ideas Ankit, but I'm probably not going to put artificial limits on trading like that. I've never been a fan of doing things that way. I think if you read through this Yankees dynasty you see that I always try to make fair deals, and I certainly don't break the bank on a yearly basis. Those Pirates teams of the early 20th century were hard to beat thanks to Honus Wagner.

Ok guys. I think I made some decisions on a few things. Look for a new dynasty thread from me later this morning. I think some of you will get a kick out of it.....

Really enjoyed this one Gollum... hate to see it end, but keep the league file in case you ever want to come back to it ... thanks for sharing your story with us ... you gave me a nice template to use for posting here if I ever decide to do something similar (I've pondered doing a Yankees history as well for a long time but am intimidated by the time factor)...

Awesome job! I read all 20 pages TODAY! Hopefully you'll start this one back up. Your OF should be unbeatable in a few seasons.
