BZ 3093: Minor league roster has incorrect mix of players

I was hired by the Indians to run their Arizona League team. Team had virtually no players, until the draft. A bunch of players were drafted and signed. A bunch were released. There were some players brought down from Mahoning Valley, Akron and Columbus AND a few sent up.

On opening day I have:

17 Catchers
1 1B
1 2B
1 3B
1 SS
6 SP
5 RP

Ouch!!! It fills out the rotation, lineup, and such just fine. I certainly can play, but this just doesn't look good. Shouldn't the GM of the parent club be making sure that I have a full, complete, balanced roster?

Playing a single a team certainly isn't the strong part of OOTP. I'll get this listed as a bug for Markus and see if he can get teams buying more minor league contracts.

None of the MLB clubs would hire me yet, since I'm playing on the mode where you start at the bottom.

Oh ok. I BZ'd this (put it in as a bug for Markus to take a look at). In the meantime, you can switch the options to commish mode and select whatever team you would like to from the beginning. Then you can turn off commish mode.

FYI ... I went into Commish mode. Went to the Indians. Attempted to fill minors. That doesn't work either.

I'm also playing a GCL team as a young manager just starting out. Every day the big league GM moves 10 players off of my team and the next day moves pretty much the same players back down. It is tiresome to create lineups and depth charts daily.

Right now I've only got 3 SP on my roster. As such my entire pitching staff is exhausted.

Don't know if anyone is reading these but after playing about 20 minor league games i had an idea.

You should have too many pitchers. You don't have to code a perfectly balanced roster, but I found that too many players is waaay better than too few. If I had 8 starting pitchers I can manage any rotation size 3 man, 4 man, etc. If had only three SP's, I've only got one option! I can choose to play a player or not.

This will also help when a player is injured. Too many pitchers is more important than too many hitters. i.e. if I had 10 catchers and no other position players I'd just have 7 poor position players! But if you only have 3 SP's you can't play a game!

GCL SP's throw a LOT of pitches. That means that they get to 100 pitches by the 4th inning. So you end up using your relief pitchers early and always. I've got 5-6 relievers who are always tired! You should probably code for 8-12+ relievers, 8+ SP's, and 12+ Batters of any position mix.

Maybe as you move up into single A and higher you wouldn't need so many relievers.

FYI - I am switching to commish and signing players but they don't always add to my roster, i.e. the MLB team actually signs and places them. So this doesn't always work.
