Question Fictional league but with historic players?

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this. I used to do it with the old OOTP (4-6) but it completely eludes me in 10. I like to create a fictional league structure with 2 leagues, two divisions, and five teams per division. I want to use a historical year as the draft source and continue to add rookies over the years from the historical source. No fictional players. By drafting from the real world to a small structure I get a few players left over to go into the minors.

I've tried historical leagues but they must mirror the real world league structure. I've tried fictional leagues and importing teams but you wind up with hundreds of fictional players dumped into the draft pool. Ideally I would import all the teams from the historical year and then remove them, dropping all the real players into the draft pool one team at a time.

What's the proper way to do this?

Import 20 historical teams (and all their players) is one way to go.

start a traditional historical league. once you have loaded the league, go to Game/Game Setup/League Setup/Edit League Structure

I haven't tried this option, but I know there is a check box to start with an inaugural fantasy draft. you can change names of teams in league structure, and with the draft you can sort players where you want them to go. Seems like a good 1-2 process for what you are trying to do.

It was that combo of the inaugural draft and the structure editing that did it. My initial problem is I tried to edit the structure before the "game" was started. I didn't realize you could do it after the game starts which is a bit unintuitive.

And that inaugural draft does exactly what I wanted: dumps all the historical players in the draft pool. So... now I have some work ahead to lay out my league, gather the logos, etc. Thank you all for your assistance!
