Wondering how to do this...

I'd like to do a league with fictional teams and an initial draft and use the players from the 1986 MLB season as the initial draft pool. I've tried to do this in a number of ways, but can't seem to get it. Am I missing something?

Yea import the league like a normal historical league.. Then go into the game setup area. I think functions release all players to FA pool.. Then set up the league structure with your fictional teams.. Then there is a Inaugural Draft option hiding somewheres ..I did something like this

I think I tried to do it this way and it sends all of the players to free agency. And I don't think it will allow me to do the initial draft as those guys are in free agency and not the initial draft pool.

I think you might have to do this in Advanced Mode (not the wizard). Click on Add Historical Major League, pick 1986, then Import. After it gets done, Go to the Options tab and click on Hold Inaugural Draft at the very top.

Obviously you'll need to go through and change or select anything else you want too (minor leagues, financials, coaches, etc...) plus name the file. Then click Start Game at the bottom left.

The first thing that will happen is the draft.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't think that will work exactly the way that I THINK the OP wants. I think because he changed things, it will give him fictional players.

What I would do (I did much the same thing in the league I created) is start a purely historical league in 1986. Then, once the league is formed, go to the league options (along the bottom, and the last one on the right in the league menu) then 1st restructure your league and you can make it how ever you want (remember to "generate new schedule") then somewhere near the top of that same list is an option that says dump all players and start inaugural draft.
