I love and hate the new injury model

Ok so I know there are a lot of complaints about the new injury model but I just want to say I love it. It is presenting a whole new challenge for me in the game. Now when I build my team I have to focus real hard on my bench in case injuries start.

I agree it adds a lot to the challenge of the game. I've been playing an ongoing game since ver 4 and have had little trouble winning. Anything that makes it harder for me to win is welcome.

I'm still playing the classic setting but really like the idea of using the new realistic model. I am waiting hoping the first patch brings a better balance between pitchers and batters.

I'm with you OP. Losing Joe Jackson for a week, which becomes two months after all the setbacks, was the hardest thing for me to endure. Overall, I love the model, but when injuries start toying with me, I hate it.

I'm betting there's 30 real life managers right now that feel the same way.

I also bet they wish they could adjust the setting to lower levels. Well, actually they're probably looking for the real life Global Options page so they can just turn injuries off.

I also like the new system, it adds more challenge, love the rehab messages.

I just hated too many injuries last year that lasted multiple months. There were too few of the out for a week or so sprains and twinges.

I'm with you on this one. Hoping to see pitchers getting more of the injuries rather than the 50/50 split that is the current setting.

Does the new injury model allow us to move a player from the 15 to the 60 day DL, or is he stuck on the 15 day DL even if he has a setback?

Let me know when your WHOLE starting 9 is on the DL at the same time.

I am playing my solo fitional league and, no kidding, every player on my team is on the DL right now.

I have 3 guys gone for 11 months, 2 guys gone for 2-3 months and 4 guys gone for 1 month. On top of that, my back up Rigth fielder is there 8 months, my back up shortstop is there, 3 weeks and my back up back up right fielder is there for 1 more week.

To add to this, 4 of the guys there are possible HOFers and all 4 are now garbage.

If you ask me, I detest the injuries.

Oh yeah, and 4 pitchers on there too all various over 1 month injury

There is no current method to move from the 15 to the 60 day DL. The 60 day DL is not modeled well. It cannot be used at all until there are 40 men on the roster. When the team has 40, then it can transfer a player to the 60 day DL to free up a roster spot.

I too am seeing, on the classic setting, entire teams being decimated by injuries. This is supposed to be a game, right, a respite from the real world. I guess thats why the "very low" injury setting exists.

This seems a little out of whack to me. Small injuries should actually be MORE common and the big injuries perhaps a little less. I just finished my first season (using "classic" setting) and my roster had 16 injuries that were for 6 months or more. Small injuries? I had less than five all season. My entire starting lineup was on the DL with serious injuries - six of these guys had a proneness rating of less than 10. If there were 30 or more small, niggling injuries and maybe 4-6 big injuries, I'd say the injury model was perfect. And before anyone says "try a lower injury setting", I set it to "low" for the 2nd year and five guys are already out (no small injuries at all) - and it's the first month of the regular season (two of these guys have a 1 in every injury proneness category).

In the game set up screen where you select what level of injuries you want. Right under scouting selection..

So... if every team in the league had it's entire starting lineup plus three starting pitchers on the DL for 6 months or more, how many players total would be on the DL? Not that this has happened in my game, but it wouldn't shock me.

It was pointed out in another thread that when the league is prone to have more injuries, that it actually helps the non AI team becuase as well all know in our personal leauges we play, the AI may have good line ups on some teams, but is never really deep in talent beyond starters.

I couldnt agree with this point more.

We human managers normally have teams with depth, good bench players, a good untility IF, 4 decent OF ect ect. Hell I am upset if I dont have 2 good spot starters on my team, let alone 5 decent arms in the rotation.

So alot of injuries can actually make it easier for us, becuase AI teams will feel it alot more if they lose a starter than we all personally do.

So after mulling this over and wanting to keep at least some sence that I am trying to be fair in my league, I opened up my settings and changed my injuries to 'low', 2 games later my #1 pitcher is lost for 7 months... how deep do I feel my pitching staff is now eh??

I'm not bitching about the injury model, I just need somewhere to complain about the fact that I lost Zack Greinke and my #3 starter to minor injuries for two to three weeks in the same series. I'm in first place early in the season, it'll be interesting to see where I am without Greinke for a while.
