Creating a small league with just a few MLB teams - possible?

I am relatively new to the awesomeness which is baseball. I am also relatively new to the awesomeness which is OOTP. I was curious if it was possible to create a league that used real teams with current players but with a significant reduction in said teams. For example, I would like to create my own league that has just 5 or 6 current MLB teams rather than the full gambit of teams.

Is that possible? I am currently overwhelmed by everything and so want to deal with a much smaller league but I also would like to use players and teams that exist in the real world (mainly just so that I can actually learn their names!)

Thanks for the help!

When you creat a league make sure you check commish mode. Yes you can start with just 8 teams.

Do I chose commish mode so that I can manually change all the names of all the teams and players? Or is there an automatic way of playing with just a few MLB teams?

You may want to create a historical league from 1920 or 1940 or somewhere there, when the leagues were smaller.

That way you also get the historical part of the game.

I am still unsure as to whether it is possible to play a smaller league with 6 MLB teams? How would one go about doing that?

If you want both MLB teams and players, create a new MLB league. Make sure your manager is the Commissioner. Go to the Game drop down tab, then Game Setup, League Setup and you can edit the League Structure. Delete the teams you don't want. Generate a new schedule. Go to the FA screen and delete all of the FAs so you don't have 24 teams worth of All Stars out there.

Play.

If you want fictional players, it is easiest to just generate a fictional league with six teams and then rename them to follow their big league counterparts.
