I'll post this in tech support unless I'm being stupid.

I was kicking the tires of the new pitching system, and checking out a pitcher's pitches. He only had two, so I went to add him a third in the player editor. Then I went back to his profile, and the new pitch doesn't show up there. Is there some trick to getting 'new' pitches to show up?

I would imagine it is scouting related - if scouting is on and the player hasn't been scouted since adding the new pitch, then it wouldn't show up until they have been rescouted.

{Moved from the newbie forum, which seems dead}

Not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm mis-interpreting, so I'll put it here for now.

I did a quick start ML game, taking control of the Angels.

Re-organised the system with AI, and it dumped Joe Saunders into AAA, which I thought was odd so I investigated..

On his profile page, it gives him an overall rating of 1/2 a star, with a potential of 2 star. On the scouting report page the same scout gives him a current rating of 4 star with potential of 5 stars..

Any clue what's going on?

Ah, yes. Turned off scouting and the new pitch showed up. Hmm... I guess that makes sense. No one's seen the guy throw his new pitch, so how would a scout know he has it.

Thanks!

I very much disagree with this. I find the logos on the standings screen to be too small to be worthwhile. Once you reduce a team logo past a certain point, the visual integrity and aesthetics of the logo are lost because you cannot make out the small detailing that the logo creator put in the logo. It just becomes a tiny blob of colour with little distinguishing detail.

As someone who has created a few team and league logos for OOTP, my preference is for team logos to always be displayed at the largest size possible. If you can't show it at a decent size, then don't bother to show it at all.

I'd create logos at 300x300, and even when reducing them to OOTP's 150x150 size there'd sometimes be significant changes to the logo's visual quality. Let alone reducing the logo to 40x40 or even smaller.

I tend to like the logos as well. Even if I have to squint a bit.

Are there options to have different size logos this year?

Yes. The game uses 5 or 6 logos for each team with varying sizes.

You can create dedicated size versions of your logo, based on what size is used on the relevant game screen. (At least, that was the plan. I think it was implemented, but I forget the specifics at the moment.)

Dedicated size versions help, but nevertheless detailed logos lose something, sometimes alot, when reduced past a certain point. This is less of an issue as the logo gets simpler.

For lots of folks, they may not notice, or care. But as someone who has designed some logos, I think I speak for a good number of designers when I say I'd like the logo work displayed in the best possible manner. The aesthetics matter to some of us.

I agree with you, which is why if it is possible to use a separate simple logo for the standings screen, maybe a cap logo letter(s) or something like that. It could work very well.

I'm downloaded, new league set up, game is started.

We'll see how things work out.

The Sim looks a little different, not much. But so far, everything is fine.

So I started up a fictional universe to look at as a test.

One thing that bothers me immediately: For MR/CL that have dynamite ratings and only have two pitches (obviously condemning them to bullpen roles in OOTPX), why bother giving them a 9/10 Endurance rating?? That just seems odd to me. Are they going to be able to pitch every night? Go 6 innings in relief??

You may be lucky and this guy develops a third pitch. Also, keep in mind that many pitchers in real life could give you 7 innings every 5 days, if they had the stuff.

The guy you have here would be John Smoltz after he turned into a reliever Or a Jose Mesa, or an Eckersley...

Ok, so I'm all downloaded and wanted to play a quick exhibition game. Yankees vs Red Sox. I have a complaint. Dice K walked three guys in the first inning. Isn't it bad enough that I have to live through the real life Dice K doing that? I have to be tortured in the virtual world as well?? mad:

That is exactly right. There are numerous guys in history that COULD pitch 6 Cody from DonorProngs or more but don't have the pitches to see that many batters every start and not get destroyed.
