Spitballs?

By the way, will spitballs be included in historical imports?

Markus has already said that it will include the same pitches as v9, so no.

What I've always done with that version is to use a modern-day pitch that moves somewhat similar, and know in my mind what it "really" is. I.E., for a pitcher who changed speeds a lot in the 19th c., I'd give him a changeup as a second pitch, but in my mind that translates to "he just took something off the fastball." For the spitter, a slider is apparently a good comp. There are still old-timers who refuse to believe that it is possible to make a pitch move in the way a slider does just with a grip, and that every slider pitcher is actually tossing a spitter and getting away with it.

sounds great. Nice work. Although would still love to see historical players get created with their actual pitches (spitball, eephus, splitter etc.) Any chance of that happening in an upcoming version or is it just too hard?

Looks like a simple work-around. Just add a second or third pitch to Sandy, and history will take care of the rest.

Yeh. I mean pretty much everyone throws a change-up of some description, in that they change speeds. Even if the 'extra pitch' has like zero movement on it.

The hero-worship-y "he dominated with two pitches and one leg and no face and without actually appearing at baseball stadiums -- he literally phoned-in his appearances -- you know?" stuff would have to be diminished in that case, but... oh well...

Outside of OOTP, how is arm slotting generally viewed in pitch rating? If someone like Pedro or Daisuke throw a curve from 2 or 3 arm positions is it generally just considered as an aspect of one pitch or is each arm slot rated differently?

For example is a slider A+ due to it coming from various spots or is it B+ and A from the overhand and 3/4 spots, rated seperately?

That's just not true. When I was young I watched Koufax pitch a lot of games from good seats, and I can tell you that he did have and throw a change up. It wasn't a really good one, but it was definitely a change up. Mostly he threw his awesome four-seam fastball or his outstanding twelve to six curve, but he did have an average change up that he would throw now and then to mess with batters.

No worries! I didnt take it like that at all. I just find the stuff very interesting. Luckily we got our answer, seems Sandy did throw a change (eggs on my face!)

thanks for your post.. seems case is closed..
the question now is in OOTPX will someone with a phenomenal fastball and
a fantastic 12-6 curve and an average change put up Sandy-like numbers?

I'm sure Sandy will import well. I'll be more curious to see how a low K% pitcher, like Jamie Moyer or Jimmy Key, imports. With low ST, they might not generate enough quality pitches to start.

Both Key and Moyer were/are huge control pithcers...so despite lowish (or in the case of Key, about league average) k-rates, their K/BB rates were above average. So as long as they convert with nice control values they'll be kinda okay.

If their low K% generates poor pitch ratings, they may not be seen as starters. I hope not, at least for pitcher's of their quality.

Question

Does the boost apply in the game pitching engine when:

1) the pitcher is set to MR or CL; or

2) the pitcher is used in a particular game as MR or CL irrespective of what his position is set as?

I know the ratings change on the profile screen when the pitcher is set to MR or CL.

If it is the former then it would seem to leave open abuse in online leagues with GMs setting pitchers as MR/CL but using them as SPs.

I dunno, but I've heard announcers mention that different arm angles is part of the reason single A hitters are having so much trouble hitting Pat Venditte's left handed slider...

I could be wrong, but I think someone who is listed as an MR or CL is penalised for starting.

I don't believe this one has been asked yet:

Does a pitcher's endurence/stamina change at all based on how he is used? The initial description taken from the manual told how a pitcher's endurence could be reduced because of injury, but can it be increased in any way? Steroids or "vitamin supplements," perhaps?

In Version 9 a few posters said they'd witnessed starters 'stretching out' over the course of a couple of years, especially young ones. It would usually happen in two or three jumps, rather than smoothly increasing.

Nope. Stamina boosts do happen, but they happen more or less randomly.

I'm going to bump this thread as a few people seem to have some confusion regarding the pitching system and might benefit from a clearer explanation.
