To the OP: It is pointless to post stuff like that on this forum. This place is full of people who think it is perfectly fine to fulfill customer orders 3 months late.

It is also full of people who cannot count, read a calender, nor draw upon nearly a decade of experience concerning the schedule of release dates.

I've turned this series on to a dozen family and friends who collectively have zero posts. I have to imagine we are not alone, the silent majority. Slippery slope to discount the opinions/concerns of this silent majority especially when trying to market to a larger audience. |

Are you in Marketing? Lack of presence on these boards, lack of substantial info on this release, and being way behind opening day are all poor decisions on Markus's part and go to show he doesn't.

Now I don't think Markus (or Steve or anyone else on the team) is a marketing genius, but also consider this... they don't really need to market the game. they actually do a fantastic job with email pushes, pre-sales, etc. Probably more than most baseball games (as a percentage) based on a rabid audience and reputation. Their marketing comes in large part from reviews, which don't happen (usually) until post-launch. If you want an example of a major company keeping the low-profile launch strategy look at google. They haven't made super-noise about OpenSocial, or even Wave. Hell Chrome is still more or less silent. What they have is an army of people who love Google. All they have to do is hand a few of them a little information and some web pages and that group goes and does all the marketing work for them. It's an effective strategy. You don't need to act like EA sports to sell product. And their audience is different. People who like graphics-lite, non-moving baseball games are not a major crowd; they don't even sell well at Best Buy etc (they tried). If you are that much of a fan of this game type, it is more likely you will find OOTP before OOTP and their advertising, no matter how much of it they do, find you. So short answer, maybe marketing, in a traditional sense means a hill of nothing to the OOTP strategy. Not saying anything doesn't mean not caring. |

Here we can turn this into a debate on when the weeks start. That sounds like a good conversation.

Hes right.. the majority of poeple who own a particular computer or console game usually arent active members online through forums. Halo has sold globally millions of copies, but Id bet my left nut (my favorite one) even though there are many online forums for it, theres likely only 2000-10000 forum members collectively. And thats for a game whoes bread and butter is online multiplayer, so its players easily access online communitites. I think that number is closer to 2000 than 10000 for the record. Just like those scientists with the Particle Collider who will destroy us all looking for the God Particle, games devlelopers have for years looked for the elisuve atom which will hook all its users to online places such as this and get peopel hooked even further! Again, I dont find his post too bad at all.. I found the tone constructive with a slight edge that doesnt prick me much. I thought the dude who commented the game was finished and not released however is just trollling... he deserves to be plunked by the pitcher and spiked in the infield! |

The game, when originally announced, was to be released in spring. That will be met with just over two weeks to spare. Screen shots have been posted every so often and a rare update on a narrowing release date have been added. Along with an update on the Mac/Linux paypal thing. What exactly would satisfy people? Does a company need to Twitter when a code is entered into the game everyday? Do they need to post a weekly Dev report? With this make people feel better about life on Earth and their place in it? Do people not trust devs to do their job and feel the need for constant updates?
I am just curious why people need to be feed information regularly. It is not going to make the game code faster. I could see how it may create more forum traffic and a buzz. But games sold and continue to sell without constant dev public output. |

Yeah I only have 9 posts. I've been a member for almost 6 years!
You want to know why I don't post??????????? Because I don't buy or play the game due to the fact it is never out when I actually have the urge to play it, which is near the start of the baseball season. |
