My other complaint is hearing members tell people, "Well dont buy it then." that hurts all of us as OOTP is (as are any other consumer products) dependent on sales.

Lets welcome newcomers and discuss opposing viewpoints in a fun and healthy manner. The last thing we want is this board appearing to have a heirarchy and an appearance of arrogance among veteran posters. (this was addressed by the Newbie sticky awhile back)

I want OOTP to thrive. In order to do that it needs to continue to grow and develop. In order to grow and develop, OOTP must identify and address its shortcomings.

As a consumer I feel strongly that I have not only a right but also a responsibility to point out weakness in hopes they will be addressed. Especially if I have a passion for a product as many of us do for OOTP

Its constructive, its healthy, and its necessary.
Thank goodness that OOTP provides a forum to do this!
What is there to complain about tonight? You got your update...game release first week of June.

Just to let you know, in the 4 or 5 years I have been on the boards, you are not the first to bring all this up and you won't be the last. Markus still does it his way and apparently he is still successful.

If you do that, then you are going to build on your customer base.

it's simple business 101, and Im positive most of you understand this, but for some reason just too stubborn to admit it.

Noooooooooo. We have been around long enough to know that Markus is a man of his word and he is making every effort to put out the best product he can. I don't need an hourly update. Just because he doesn't cater to YOUR every whim doesn't mean he isn't meeting/exceeding the expectations of most of the rest of us.

And again, you got your update today, so what else do you want?

I agree I play all year round so the release date could be August it wouldn't bother me.

sigh....Im not saying he is not meeting YOUR expectations. I realize, for you, as long as the game comes out before June 21, you think the world is just fine.

However, there are many people who would be turned off by a BASEBALL game coming out in late June, or even early June. And those are the people that Markus could lose next year. Maintaining and growing the customer base is markus's #1 goal....and ultimately (at least should be) all the veteran's goal too.

Just exactly what do you want them to do to "build membership and INCREASE the interest in OOTP so that Marcus is forced to create a new version based upon customer demand" ????

Is releasing the game the day you want it released the only issue or are there other problems???? I'm asking because you make it sound like the whole thing is a complete disaster somehow.
NO Not a complete disaster at all. I just think that updates have been very slow in forthcoming. I think a release date that coincides with the MLB season would alleviate alot of the dissension and would actually bring in more buyers. (that is when the interest in baseball is at its peak even more so than the World Series cuz every team is playing)

I do however really think that some forum members drive off newer buyers with their attitude and comments. (and OOTP agrees given the sticky).

LEt people complan. Dont ever tell someone they are stupid because they are new...

Somehow its seems that some members dont want OOTP to get popular with the general public cuz then it wont be cool anymore. That attitude is gonna kill this great game.

Your starting to sound like a broken record, put it to bed we get your point even if we are too stubborn to get it.

Hmm 4 or 5...I have been here since 2002... Never said my ideas were original just that they were a viewpoint that needs to be heard.

Actually when he was with SI he didnt do it his way. i am not saying that was all good but it wasnt all bad either...

What is complaining to you is an alternative point of view to me. If i will complain about anything it is when one attempts to limit my right to complain.

you my friend have a valid point... except that perhaps the reason the game has been delayed is because they (OOTP) are trying their absolute best right now to meet/exceed customer expectations by not releasing a buggie game that would light up the boards.

The fact the game is improved year by year is enough for me to come back every year and purchase it. Not being stubborn you see, just the way I think

Plus, the delay allows me to have time to post a bit as I'm striving to jump up to (Triple AAA)... been in (Double A) forever it seems

Apparently the base is growing each year, even with these late releases. Late relative to the beginning of the real season, that is. Not late relative to when he said it would be released.

I understand where you're coming from. I got pissed my first year as well. However, I know how Markus does things now, and I have other things to keep me occupied, so it doesn't bother me anymore.

All I am saying is this is how he has always done it and with all the complaints in the past he hasn't changed, and I doubt he will now.

The game will be out in about 2 weeks, so eat, drink and be merry till then.

No he didn't. That's what the problem is because he doesn't have a Mark Duffy to keep us updated every day or whatever. Duffy's job was publicity. So really that was a curse to Markus because Duffy spoiled everyone.

This is all the more reason that you should know how things are. What is it about this year in particular that you feel the need to get into all this, especially since you have seen every year how this topic is talked to death.

I am actually looking for a new job. How about this post starting my campaign to become OOTPs director of marketing and communication?

that's a very good point and a whole other area that has to be balanced with the release date. We've see what happens when a game is release too soon. holy hell breaks out. but we've also seen what happens when a game comes out late. again, holy hell breaks out.

Believe it or not, I'm typically one who would prefer the game to come out when it's ready, and if not ready by it's release date, too bad. HOWEVER, a key piece of doing this successfully, is COMMUNICATION. Keep your customers informed. They will appreciate it, and give you some slack. I just did not see enough of that this time around. That's all.

I must have more time on my hands... haha
Seriously, I dont know why, but I seeing the "patience grasshopper" comment repeatedly kinda set me off.

Then I commented once and was basically told to shut up and that stoked my boiler a little bit...so call it righteous indignation. again not with OOTP but with the board

and Im trying to up my post count! haha

and my OOTP 9 wont work!

well, for the record I've never called anyone stupid for asking a question (but close)... I usually do not even know the answer quite frankly and some of these guys on the board know a lot and are better prepared to help noob'ies

I've been attacked in the past by the some you mention but was somehow able to shake it off and continue and can't even remember who it was as it had such impact...

you are able to complain... this entire thread consists of nothing more than complain so obviously it is allowed and is totally fine with me, no problem. (risky comment but tail piece should make it pass ok) The life vs no life thread pops up every year just before release.

and finally, I think many here play the game year round and that is possibly why so many aren't to upset about release dates... although for sure everyone given a choice wants it now I guess

Hey im cool if people arent concerned about the release date. I just dont like the fact that some think that no one should be allowed to question it.

And, I would be less concerned about the release date if my OOTP 9 worked at all (which it does not)

This is silliness

I have no idea why forum vets feel the need to harrass new customers.

Yes the vets arent worried about the preorder as he will once again hit the date he promised however the new customers dont have a prior relationship with this product. Why not try to make it an enjoyable experience so they come back?

The newbies arent the enemies. This forum is taking a turn for the worst because this stuff keeps happening.

The newbies frustration is warranted because they probably arent used to paying for something without getting updates more than monthly.

Instead of clowing around why dont some of you take their feelings into consideration.

What is wrong with your OOTP 9? I have had no problems, best release yet for me.

I did have problems with 6 or 7 (can't remember) but 9 has worked great for me so far.

May not be a bad idea to take post counts and join date off the avatar.
