Basket if you go to the beginning of this thread you can try out the beta of the spreadsheet which is great. With a few changes this could completely replace the scheduler in the game. You will Excel 2007 i think but i think you will like what the spreadsheet can do right now.

Out of curiosity, have you taken a look at the new Open Office V3.0?

I'm thinking with your experience with VBA, you'd probably be able to easily change the macros over to the version of basic that they're using there, thus making this fine database available to us all, even if we don't wish to overpay Microsoft...lol Great work btw from what I can see!

I haven't had a look at Open Office, but even the seemingly minor change of making it compatible with Excel 2003 was simply too time consuming to correct. As a result, I had to make Office 2007 a requirement.

I actually specifically designed it that way. Champions do duck the number one contenders on occasion, even for six years. Would you prefer that I remove this feature, or simply make it so that you can manually pick a fight?

Yep - see above question

Already can do that, i'll make sure it is MUCH more apparent a choice in the new sheet.

Yeah this is pretty easy to do - however as I pointed out to an earlier poster you would need to have a SUBSTANTIAL fighter list in order to make this work. But yes, will be included.

Yeah it is, again, deliberately included this way. Do you really want a fighter with a losing record to be ranked as a contender?

I thought about a way to do this, and I should be able to incorporate a sort of sliding scale, ie. Least Active--------*--------Most Active

This is perfect timing, as I'm just now getting back into TB 2.5. I've never been able to get off the ground, even though I've owned the game for years. I've never gotten to the point where I've even had a fight in a universe yet.

I'm really looking forward to this. I just read all 9 pages of threads, here are a few things I'd love to see. Just suggestions, since that's what you were asking for.

I second the idea of 'any' start date. Having this as an initial input would be nice. I want to start with Yankee Sullivan and Tim Hyer back in the 1840s, for example.

I would like the option to bring fighters in chronologically, not randomly. So the ability to include a career start year with the fighter's name, and then those fighters would automatically be brought to active in the correct (user specified) year. They wouldn't all have to go active January 1. Say 1/12 of them come in (randomly) in January, another 1/12 in February, etc.. Or is there a time of year where most boxers go pro (like baseball players in June, or football players in September)? I'm a fan of boxing, but not a freak, it's a passing interest that I'm trying to improve upon . . .

The ability to set beginning/pre-prime/prime/post-prime/end to whatever the user wants in terms of fights years (so you could say 2 years or 5-8 fights before going from beginning to pre-prime, for example). At least being able to do this globally, but it would be really cool to be able to set this for each fighter individually if you wanted to.

Seems like the option to override the schedule, either to cancel a fight you don't want to see, or add a fight that you want to see would be good.

Along those same lines, what about a user specified time frame where the champ must fight the number one contender, say once every 12, 18, 24 months (whatever the user wants). That would solve the 6-year issue if a God (is that a good name for universe controller? ) wants it that way.

I can't wait to play with this. This might finally allow me to get off the ground.

If I think of others, I'll let you know. I tend to be a decent 'idea' guy when it comes to this stuff, I've start several themed baseball leagues etc.. I'm not a great doer, probably because my ideas tend to be too big to get off the ground.

Thanks for providing this.

idea

Also love to have multiple divisions with the option of moving fighters to new divisions or even multiple ones eg Armstrong.

I'll make this easier to do. Will be an easy one.

Hmmm...... Not sure about this one. It's easy to do it randomly, and its also easy to do it chronologically - but I'm not quite sure if I could incorporate both at the same time. Haven't come across one I haven't been able to implement, so I'll have a closer look at this.

This will definetely be included, already have this one figured out actually. You will be able to select a default setting, or manually modify each fighter. No issue at all.

The request itself perplexed me to begin with, because if you manually wanted to set the fights, why use a program such as mine or the scheduler? BUT it is the most common request by far, so I will certainly make it a priority.

I've had a think about this, and although there are many ways to solve it, I am yet to settle on an ideal solution.

Do you just vacate the title?

Do you FORCE the fight?

Or do you just use the newly incorporated change to manually add or alter fights?

As I have stated previously, I am yet to encounter a request I haven't been able to implement. So fire away.

Yep definetely looking at this. Still as yet undecided on how to present it though - will be incorporated if I can manage it.

Not a huge deal, but thanks for looking into it. Honestly, not worth wasting your time on after looking it over, I could just put the boxer into the 'pool' page when the sheet hits the month he first fought and then click the activate fighter button, right?

Speaking for myself, I'd want the tool to do most of the heavy lifting, but there are certain situations where you want the ability to override it, in individual circumstances as they come up.

I would choose forcing the fight. This is a game, we want to see great fights. Realism too, but in the end, great fights. Perhaps give the universe god the option through a popup box? If random injuries are incorporated, maybe allow an injury exception for those that hate vacated titles?

It wouldn't have to be just the #1 contender, you could maybe say the Champ has to fight a top 3 contender every 18 months or a top 5 contender every 12 months, or the #1 contender every 15 months. Ideally both parameters would be user adjustable.

Okay guys (and girls), I’m starting work now.

I’ve had a look over the thread, and with the feedback received from the Beta I am going to try and implement the following into a newly authored sheet:

1) I will implement a ‘Master Sheet’ which will have a number of default settings, such as the start date, that can be changed.
2) I will write in an injury generator, which will sideline fighters for a longer period of time at stages.
3) I will attempt to implement multiple divisions. Please be aware, this is INCREDIBLY complex – I can’t promise this one.
4) I will allow you to start a fighter at somewhere other then the beginning of his career.
5) I will allow MANUAL changes to the auto scheduler. This includes adding, adjusting and removing fights.
6) I will make it so that when you add fighters, you can add more then one at a time if you feel the need.
7) I will include the capacity to have multiple titles, and the capacity adjust the criteria to which fighters are eligible to fight for said titles.
8) I will make it so you can ‘choose’ if you feel the need, who becomes active next.
9) I will make the randomness of activity adjustable.

The reason I asked is they use a version of basic that's Open Source. I'm fairly sure it's modeled on VBA, but I don't have the programming knowledge or experience to know for sure. This is included in the 3.0 package, and is free for everyone. Unfortunately the macro's in your package don't work, on it, but I can access the spreadsheet otherwise. But I've a sneaking suspicion it would be easier to get your sheet to work on 3.0 than Excel 2003 due to the fact that it's more current. No worries if you can't do it though, I understand time constraints....
