1922 Final Standings and Playoff Bracket

Guess who's back on top in the Western Conference? You guessed it, the Los Angeles Kings. Can they win a 6th Stanley Cup? Meanwhile, in the East, the New Jersey Devils are the #1 seed.

1922 Stanley Cup Champions: Phoenix Coyotes

In somewhat of a surprise, the Phoenix Coyotes have won their first Stanley Cup. They were trailing 3 games to 2 to Minnesota, but came back to win that. Then they upset the #1 seed Los Angeles Kings in six games. Down 3 games to 1 to Dallas in the West Finals, the Coyotes won seven games in a row, adding to the playoff frustration of the Stars, and preventing Carolina from winning their third Stanley Cup.

Phoenix went 86-76 during the regular season, and had a mark of 16-8 during the playoffs.

That's exactly what I meant.

And yeah, I'm in a weird limbo period until OOTP X. I did 24 years of simming (until 1900) got busy, and then OOTP X came out and I figured rather than start the big expansion, I should just wait until the next version, which I based partly on ice hockey (by which I mean I made an Eastern and Western conference, because that makes sense to me).

Eventually I'll get it to, I think, 48 teams, and then maybe I'll actually play as one of them.

But yeah, good work on this, shame my Devils squandered a number one seed- typical.

1923 Final Standings and Playoff Bracket

Last year's Stanley Cup winners, the Phoenix Coyotes, barely snuck into the playoffs when they beat the Calgary Flames in a one-game playoff for the 8th spot in the West. This year's #1 seeds will be Pittsburgh in the East and Chicago in the West.

Eventually, I'm going to find a way to get the Hartford Whalers into this league. I don't want to expand, because just to get one team in, I would have to have four expansion teams so that the East and West have an equal number of teams. With only 30 teams, the league simulates very quickly. If I add more, it will slow down. The other option is to relocate one of the Eastern Conference teams to Hartford. It boils down to three choices: Florida and Atlanta (sun belt teams that have a reputation of drawing poor attendance), or the NY Islanders (like the real-life struggles that they are having. Does the NYC area need three hockey teams?)

If I do choose to expand, here's what I'd probably go with:

East: Hartford, Hamilton
West: Kansas City, Portland (OR)

The other idea that I'm toying with is increasing the Stanley Cup Finals to a best-of-nine. Possibly even the whole playoffs.

I know they won, but what is with the Devils? Three series in a row, they've lost their first 2 home games and gotten in an 0-2 hole. They need to move back to East Rutherford, the NJ Devil clearly did not go to Newark with them. C'mon boys, you need to take advantage of that home field if you want to win the Cup.

I have them in Newark in the city listing. Maybe I'll move them back to East Rutherford and see what happens.

Stanley Cup Finals preview

The Carolina Hurricanes are on fire. They have swept their past two series, and are in the Stanley Cup Finals for the second year in a row. They hope that this year is more successful than last year, when they got swept by Phoenix. This is the 5th Finals appearance for the 'Canes, and they are going for their 3rd Stanley Cup. They were champions in 1903 and 1905.

For the Chicago Blackhawks, this is their first time reaching the Finals.

1923 Stanley Cup Champions: Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have won their 3rd Stanley Cup! They were incredible in the playoffs, finishing with a postseason record of 16 wins and only 4 losses. The 'Canes have tied the Anaheim Ducks for the second most Stanley Cups in the relatively short history of this league.

Carolina's MVP of the playoffs was clearly their star pitcher, Igoryok Aderikhin of Lithuania. He accounted for half of the Hurricanes' victories, going 8-0 with a 1.93 ERA.

As if winning the Stanley Cup wasn't enough, the Hurricanes also enjoyed a no-hitter from one of their other pitchers, Stephen French, in the first round versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 1924 Conference Finals will feature four teams who have had great playoff success during the past three years. The Carolina Hurricanes are the defending Stanley Cup Champions, and two-time defending Eastern Conference Champions. The Philadelphia Flyers won the Stanley Cup three years ago in 1921. The Chicago Blackhawks are the defending Western Conference Champions. The Phoenix Coyotes won the Stanley Cup two years ago in 1922.
