Welcome to the game. I hope you enjoy the game as much as I do.

Bummer

Just went to pre-order (same day as last year) for the Mac version and find that this stipulation still exist.

The Subscriber understands that Software using the Webstore system may require ongoing periodic contact with the Webstore server. The Subscriber accepts that if the Internet connection to the Webstore servers is disrupted for a prolonged period of time the Software could cease to function.

In these economic times, when one does not know if they will continue to be employed, luxuries such as internet access could become unaffordable. It looks like "X" will be a fine upgrade but I can't buy something that may not be able to be used. Thankfully "9" is so good.

Hopefully there will be future versions that will not have these conditions.

PISD responded to the same question back in March in this thread. I'm not sure why it's still in the T&C

The suspense is killin' me!!!!!!

I ordered X weeks ago and I can't handle it! I've been waking up nightly, in a disturbing sweat, longing for the day I can start my OOTP X season.
When Lord, when's it gonna be my time!!!

What counts as a "prolonged period of time"? If this is true of 9, has anyone had any experience with this? I'm also using a Mac and would hate to have a game that I can't play all the time, because sometimes the internet isn't available. Will an internet connection always be required, or will there be a release where that changes?

Certainly makes me skeptical to pre-order.

You can convert them in game. It usually works pretty well, although there are sometimes strange bugs.

Yeah, it's frustrating for me as my demo has already expired and now I'm stuck w/o a game to play waiting for the mythical release date. *sigh* Foolish me buying the game in mid-april.

As someone unfamiliar with the normal happenings around here dare I ask if there's a chance we can get an update from the big dogs sometime very soon? I see that the last one came almost a month ago.

You can ask, it just that you may not get a prompt response

Don't Panic... The key word here is *MAY*.

OOTPX does not require your PC to be connected to the Internet. Although you will need access to the Internet somehow to register. You ask the game to generate a registration key which is a long string that you can copy onto a USB key, a floppy or whatever you want. If you dont have internet you could put it on a floppy or USB key and take it to a freinds house, library or internet cafe. You put the string into a special webpage, it gives you an activation code you type into OOTP and your up and running.

Once you have done this to register the game it will continue to play without needing the internet until you make a major change to your PC hardware, for example changing the network card. At this point you simply repeat the steps above and you are up and running again.

This system is/has been tested by our Beta testers and seems to be working well.

Finally bought. v.9 was the first one I've missed since discovering the game in spring 2002 (v.4) so I'm excited to fool around with a new version.

The T&C does have,
The Subscriber accepts that if the Internet connection to the Webstore servers is disrupted for a prolonged period of time the Software could cease to function.
that I must accept in order to continue but I'll take you at your word in your post and pre-order now.

What about for those running OS X? Would the same still apply?

Thinking back, I've played 9 without internet access for days, so I think I'll be fine. But I'm kind of paranoid after that little warning was brought up.
