Historical Expansion Worksheet

I'm putting together a a worksheet/database that catagorizes all of the changes that were made historically per year since 1901. City and nickname changes, ballpark changes, and Lahman database codes. My question is 'Is there anything else you guys would want to see in it?'

I would like to make it as easy to use as possible, just by browsing the year, you can see what changes you need to make.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Josh

Manager names and minor league affiliates by year would be awesome although that would add a lot of work I realize.

Not a bad idea. Manager names would be really easy. If I'm not mistaken, baseball-reference.com has them listed. As for minor league affiliates, I wouldn't know where to go for the information, but would have no problem entering them if someone could point me to the info.

At home I have a site bookmarked that has them all but I am at work at the moment. I run a historical league and we use the real affiliates each year so if you put a list together it would be great. I'll get back to you when I get home.

Alright sounds good. 7:40 EST for me, so I should be on here until roughly 12:30. I'm also going to add games played per year.

For years like 1901, how many games should I use for their games played? Each team seems to have played something different. I'm about to finish the 1901 AL section, so I'm going to upload it to my webspace, just so you guys can see what it looks like, and so I can get any suggestions.

I go with 140 games, then increase to 154 in 1903, and then to 162 in 1961.

I seem to remember in 61*, that when they were having the meeting in the commissioner's office, how that one reporter said that when Babe set his first home run record, he played in 14 more games than the other guy.

Looks good so far.

I'll be one who will really appreciate this, since I get tired of checking back and trying to remember which site I found something at.

It'll be nice to have this information in one spot.

Thanks alot bigjas. I'll be appreciating it alot, too.

Another question, this time abou thte minors systems.

Which leagues should/do I use? I know which leagues are going on now, but back in 1902, I have no idea.

The minors didn't really become the way they are now until the 30's or 40's I believe. That site does list them by affiliate, classification and year, but it will still be a lot of work. For many years some teams will only have two minor league teams and others have 8. I could maybe give you a hand with it. PM me your e-mail address and I'll see if I can't come up with something.

...The Sporting News printed league affiliates every April from at least 1946 on and probably well before. I can get copies of as many of these registers as possible and help out in my spare time. I have access from the turn of the century to modern day, I believe.

That would be superb. That site has all the information but you have to really sift.

Professor - Anything you could do to help would be greatly appreciated.

The file on the website is now updated with the AL 1901-1909 with all name changes, coaching changes and stadium changes. I also have listed how many games were played in each season, and how many games the World Series was.
