I think you guys are making it too complex.

The problem is sending a guy to the minors that you don't want on your playoff roster, yet he refuses assignment and you don't want to release him.

The answer is: put him on the DL. By the time you need him again, it will be the next year and he'll be ready to come off. And (this maybe roundabout cheating.... house rule needed), you can always move a DL guy into AAA.

You can't place an uninjured player on the DL though. I do agree that they're making it too complex though. I had an idea back there somewhere that Ill try to find.

Cool. Well maybe you could allow players in ootp to be sent down to an inactive list for the playoffs but after that, the team will not be able to play or sim another game until the player is taken off the inactive list by being assigned to the 25-man roster or released. One idea on how to handle it.

PS: But if Markus simply "allowed" any player on the DL after the season - that would take care of it... a fairly small tweak.

Oh, you can do that in 4, because I've done it accidentally. Must be a fix I didn't notice.

Sorry about that.

But then you could allow the player to be sent to the minors without his consent which goes against the optioning. Come september, you could send anyone that refuses assignment to the DL to get around the problem. This doesn't sound like a solution to me.

It comes out about the same either way. Either you create an 'inactive' roster or you create a 'playoff eligible' roster. Or you go with the individual flagging, which I like more the more I think about it (the way Scott proposes, with eligible/flagged players displaying in a different color, seems fairly straightforward, from a gameplay standpoint at least), which could also work with the auxiliary Playoff Roster replacing the Trading Block in the display. I guess the biggest problem would be making the depth/lineups/staff pull from the Playoff Roster instead of the Active Roster. Also I bet making the AI teams treat this process reasonably will be a headache.

I'm still new to the game....still playing my first season....58 games into it (I play all my games, no simming)....so I have not run into this problem....but poo...sounds like I am going to! There REALLY needs to be a playoff roster...or some sort of workaround, without question.

I am really interested to hear .400's take on this....this seems kinda major to me. Does anyone know if Steve or Markus has commented about this elsewhere?

What am I chopped liver?

The work around for now is to turn off the minors options, demote the player you want demoted and return. Or just cut the guy loose.

In real life this is something you would have had to deal with before the start of the next season anyways, so its not that big of an issue, just a bit of an annoyance to have to cut someone before the playoffs (IMO).

LOL! Sorry Scott....don't believe I have "met" you yet. I am still a pathetic, lowly OOTP5 newb

I am still even unclear whether or not Steve works for .400.....I have seen posts where he says he doesn't (I think) and others where he seems he does ...and he answers the .400 support emails....lol...so I still am not sure who is who here. I thought GForce worked for .400 at first...I have learned since that he does not. So PLEASE do forgive me....geez...I feel stoopid.

OK, I have read all 100+ posts.....I know I saw your name there a bunch of times....but I don't recall reading any "official" statements. Can you please elaborate on .400's thoughts on the playoff roster thingy (sorry to be so technical there ) and if you know whether or not there is something being worked on to help?? If so, you have a little over 100 more games to get it done (that is how many I have to go)

Are there plans to do anything else in a future patch? Or the next release, OOTP6? Just wondering...thanks again!!

BRAVO 1/5

PS - Scott, you are now my favorite .400 employee! (just don't tell Markus (or Steve?) I said that.... )

I think his comments so far in this thread make it clear that it's an issue they're considering. Since this thread was just started yesterday I'd be surprised if there were an 'official statement' or plan of action on it yet. Sounds like it's something they're willing to look at upgrading though.

Yeah I don't think it was ever really announced, I just suddenly became an admin and my name showed up on the websites meet the team page.

No need to be sorry, but FYI Steve does work for .400.

Basically you've seen the beginning of a discussion on an issue, when Markus returns from his vacation I'll mention it too him and we'll figure out if its something that can be addressed, and if it is how to best address it.

As I mentioned before its not a huge issue, IMO, as in real life you still would have had to deal with this issue before you started playing the next season; in OOTP they just force you to decide a little earlier right now .

Why would you go through all of that trouble when All you would need is to place maybe a couple guys that do not want to be sent down on the inactive roster. With the playoff eligible roster, you would have to move 25 guys and create a bunch of other problems.
