Game crashes on Expansion/Protection menu- update

This issue was originally reported by me last month, and was moved to the "closed thread" due to my delay in getting back to this. I've uploaded the file 'mlb80.zip', which contains the .dat files.

I finished the next year and still get the same error message. The only way I can get past this is to turn off expansion.

I'm confused. What expansion is supposed to be happening in these years? I'm not aware of any.

With your league files, I get a message stating that I don't have the proper path to the historical database, but I don't see any expansion. I'm not sure which database you are using, but the fact that it is trying to expand in 1981 and 1982 is not a good sign.

I'm not sure why it is trying to expand. I have the 1980 historical league set to "auto expand" and rookies set to automatically join their original team, so there is no yearly draft. All I know is that so far, after each year, I have received a message to submit my "protected player list", then the game crashes when I try to do that.

As far as the historical database, I haven't added any mods for that so I should be using whatever the default is. how do I change the path for that database?

I just purchased (few days ago) OOTP09 and am running my first historical league. I am experiencing the same issue:

1. I have checked auto expansion.

2. The leagues (MLB) are trying to expand after 1903 season (historically this is not accurate)

3. When I select the pulldown menu to protect roster for expansion draft the game crashes.

I read the sticky and am not sure if I should start my own thread or contribute to this one. Please advise so I can provide more information.

I thought I might not have enough players to facilitate a draft so I added more fictional players to the next draft eligible draft pool. then, when i went to look at the list of total players, the game crashed.

well,　the issue is that for some reason the league expanded at the end of 1903 season, which is wrong. this is likely the reason why the draft is not functioning/crashing. i have tried to replicate in another league but had no problem, sailed through 1903 without expansion. when i deselect auto-expand the expansion draft remains.

Version: 9.2.13 (the only mods are logos, uniforms)
League type: historical MLB AL, NL - 1903.
PC/MAC: PC
What were you doing? Nothing.
What happened? The league suddenly went into expansion mode, when this is not accurate historically. In other words, this expansion should not have occurred (I suspect that this is simply a coding issue and that any issues following are irrelevant). I selected the dropdown menu for expansion drafts and protection lists and the game does not respond, get an hourglass, then a message saying the program is being shut down.

Reproducible? WIth this league yes.
Problem occurs with other leagues? Getting the incorrect expansion to occur - no. Getting it crash during expansion attempts when expansion is correct, yes.

Note: I also notice that in the league where this has occurred the season standings record for a team (CHN) has been reset to 0. Could be related.

FIx attempts and results:

1. deselected auto-expansion in game setup

- expansion attempt remains

2. attempted to add free agents
- game crashed when i went to look at player list
3. resign as GM and act as commish

4. created a new league (1976) and ran first year as commish.

- no problem when i went into roster protection menu. however game crashed when i clicked on first year player draft order menu. this is not an issue in other leagues where there is no expansion

5. so far I have created test leagues for this issue using the wizard setup and advanced setup. i have chosen each one to expand. without exception, whenever i finish the season prior to expansion and get to the point of expansion (ie oct 15, 1976) where i have to protect roster, i go to the leagues free agent page, click on either view players or first year players draft order and the game crashes.

looks like you lads have a major bug when it comes to expansion.
