Player death

would love to see players age and die. It is strange bringing up a player who retire 60 years earlier and have his age at 102. Retired players should have death dates. IMHO

Agreed. Or, at least, have their retirement age frozen and have the players themselves removed from the aging code.

This seems a reasonable compromise, since I think Markus has said he won't do deaths.

Great idea. I just wanted a solution to the aging of retired players. This should work.

not a big deal to me either way but that seems like a good idea, "retired in 2012 at age 45" would work well.

I'm not really sure, but I'm guessing that it's seen as slightly morbid. I suppose the problem is that as well as all of the players that live to be like 80 you have the Corey Lidle's and Ray Chapman's of this world. To model that kind of thing could be seen as being in bad taste (personally I'm not against it).

perhaps, but then again, career ending injuries can be seen the same way by some. I think it would just add realism and i'd love to see it in.

If player deaths cannot be added i'd be happy with a retired players' age category just be taken out (but his birthdate of course would still stay) That way we won't have players 99 plus years old.

Yeah, that's a pretty obvious compromise. Just have the age field become "Age at retirement". Also, not related to death as such, but is there a limit after which you can't unretire someone who isn't in the hall of fame? I ask because you shouldn't be able to unretire someone who is like 90 (Ignoring Northern League publicity stunts...)

What really surprises me is that as much as everyone seems to want as realistic of a game as Markus can make, there isnt a bigger push to add player/management deaths to the game. I personally could really care less, but the one thing that kind of would make it more interesting is that you could not be gm for the entire run of your universe.

I usually start out in 1901 and start simming and start with an age of around 20, but after 50 or so years, it is time for retirement. The way things stand you could keep going and going and going and by the time you reach 2009, you would be near 200 and still a gm, lol. Just seems odd to me. I really dont pay much attention to my age in the game or the players once the retire. But i can see why that would be a requested item.

Has anyone ever tried to make a mod/add on that would do that for you?

Just some thoughts.

Actually, you'd be closer to 128 years old, but hey, that's the math teacher in me. I play the same way, by the way.

Glad I dont have to do much math at work, lol.

Have yet to finish most of the leagues/universes I start as I seem to get bored easy, but now that I have found the random debute database, I am having more fun.

I used to run a leauge back with Front Page Sports version of OOTP, I think it was the Infrograms version of OOTP4. Miss those days but no time to do a full on league and seeing that I havent upgraded past 8 yet, not many leagues to choose from.

The death of players would be a cool thing and there is nothing, imho, morbid about it.
