Question Historical Leagues

This may sound like a silly question, but since I don't have the game yet (as I am awaiting the release of 10) I have no way of finding out yet.

When starting a historical league, will real players become available in the future. I.E. If I started a league in 1982, will Pujols and ARod and Braun and Lincecum eventually come into the league, or does it just generate fictional players from that day forward?

The game comes with a database that imports real players in the year they made their ML debut. So yes, A-Rod would come into the league whenever he made his Mariner debut. You can also choose whether to import them onto the team they broke in with or have a draft instead.

As far as I know, you should be able to try this in the v9 demo. Download it and give it a whirl.

Also, you can mix in fictional guys if you want, or have all fictional players. OOTP possibilities are varied.

My historical league runs a database that also includes Negro Leaguers. The best pitcher since our founding has been Satchel Paige and he's closing in on 400 wins.

Thanks for the info gentlemen...but just so i'm clear on this, ARod will come into the game via the draft, perhaps get drafted by someone other than the mariners, and become just as completely dominant? (minus any randomly generated injuries of course)

Also, the v9 demo is what made me preorder 10. However, it only allows you one season. That is why I've been unable to try this out.

Thanks again.

Sorry, I wasn't terribly clear. There are two ways to setup your leagues using real historical players from the in-game database:

a) Players will automatically be placed in the organization they debuted with in the year they made their ML debut. In this example, A-Rod would show up in the Mariners organization prior to spring training 1994. In this setup, there is no draft - players are just placed on the teams in the offseason.

or

b) Players are drafted in the year they make their ML debut. In this case, A-Rod would be in the 1994 draft pool and could theoretically end up on any team.

His abilities in either scenario can be based off his real-life stats for his career (called recalc in our lingo; this produces pretty realistic stats) or follow the game engine development (anything could happen - he could be even better or never hit a lick).

hey TribeFan...

Thanks again for the info. I think I'm going to have to stop posting because the more I find out about this game, the more impatient I become. I'm half tempted to buy 9 even though I already pre-ordered ten just so I can start playing now. Everything I hear makes the game better and better.

And though I'll always be a Brewer fan, there's a special place in my heart for the tribe as I consider them the "AL Brewers". I cheered loudly for them last year as they played a couple home games in my beloved Miller Park.

As previously mentioned, why not download the Demo?

Keep in mind though with historical leagues you would have to use fictional players if you plan to continue past the last real baseball season. But a lot of us either take our time with a league or replay a league or try playing a different way.

Just depends on how you wanna play.

I'm biased, but I'd say buy it

Unless you have a wife or girlfriend or kids that value your presence. Then maybe you should have some fun with them before you start ignoring them. A last hurrah of sorts.

Hey there Bruce...I have dl'd the demo, but it only allows for one season. I appreciate the advice though because it is what originally made me so excited for 10.

TribeFan...Yep. Wife and kids. Just had baby number 3 a couple of days ago. I figure he doesn't need me yet though. LOL Now if only I could figure out what to do with the other 2 so I can sufficiently ignore them...any suggestions for that?

New user working with OOTP 9 Free Trial right now.

Questions:

1. Can historical leagues be set up that allow players to be drafted from any year in history so that '65 Koufax and '21 Ruth, for example, could play in the same universe?

2. Can historical leagues of various sizes be set up, say 4, 6, 12 franchises instead of the full NL/AL?

3. Are the Negro Leaguers an add-on?

Thanks for any info.

Yes. There is a randomized database or two floating around in the mod section, I believe.

Easily, though if you have a 12 team lead in an era where there were only enough historical players for 8 teams you'll run into problems if you don't add in fictional guys.

The default game database does not include any Negro Leaguers. You need to find a custom 3rd party database in the mod forums that will include them.
