Longtime Historical League (in 1960) Looking for Two
- League name: The Antiquity League
- League URL: http://antiquityleague.anthonygiacalone.net/home.htm - League type: Historical (currently in September 1965) - Number of teams: 14 - OOTP version: 2007/OOTP8 (will be switching to current OOTP version in 2010) - Ratings: 1-20 - Sim Speed: M-TH, 7-8 says per sim, approx. One Sim Month per Real Week. - Special Rules: Uses financial, coaching, modified medical, three minor league levels, MLEs for all players that ever played in the majors, talent change randomness only 20, NO scouting My league, the Antiquity League, is a fourteen-team league that has been together since 1927 (or almost six years). We have a very solid core of owners drawn from a variety of professions and acquaintances. I am currently trying to change the culture of the league and that's why I am looking for experienced, quality OOTP owners. For years we had used Yahoogroups to communicate but I'm directing us toward using the league forum (http://antiquityleague.14.forumer.com/index.php) for all league business and communications. In the five seasons since I originally posted this we've added four excellent owners and the league is thriving. The Antiquity League draws from the 16 major league teams and any player that debuted before 1958 and was still active in professional baseball (using MLEs for minor leaguers). Prior to 1958, we have always used DMB but we switched to OOTP2007/8 for the 1958 season. We sim approximately thirty sim days per real-time week and complete approximately six seasons in a calendar year. Ownership of OOTP 2007 is not required but it is very strongly recommended. The league uses three levels of minor leagues, coaches and financials, but not scouting (and only a modified doctors system). The league webpage can be found at http://antiquityleague.anthonygiacalone.net/home.htm. The available team, the Baltimore Huns (http://antiquityleague.anthonygiacal...ms/team_1.html), are the red-headed stepchild of the league. Over the last season, I have taken steps to solve the team's inequitable distribution of talent and built it's farm syste with an eye toward pitching and defense. Currently, they are 58-73, but they have a core of young talent/prospects that includes Rico Carty, Denis Menke, Bill Singer, Milt Pappas, Jim Maloney, Bill Hands, Phil Regan, Larry Hisle, Bobby Tolan, Mike Andrews, Mike Epstein, Pat Jarvis, Denny Doyle, Lou Piniella, Richie Scheinblum and Earl Williams. If you are interested in assuming the general managership of one of these teams, please let me know as soon as possible. We are in midst of the 1965 Pennant Race and expect to start the 1966 draft (Tom Seaver and Reggie Jackson!) The first week of October. If this is not a good time, please let me know if you'd be interested in taking control of one of the league's four 1969 expansion teams, which will begin drafting sometime in late summer of 2010. Thanks for your time and consideration, Anthony Giacalone giacalone.anthony@gmail.com Last edited by AnthonyGiacalone; 09-23-2009 at 12:53 PM. |

Hi all,
One of our expansion owners, after waiting four months for a franchise, bailed during the expansion draft (weird). Anyway, our Denver Rams (Denver Rams Home Page) is available. They are a pretty dreadful team right now, on a pace to lose about 100 games during their first season, but they have some hope on the horizon as their farm system or roster includes Vada Pinson, Joe Morgan, Mel Stottlemyre, Bill Robinson and Ray Washburn. Also, they are likely to pick first in the rookie draft at the end of the season; the draft will include such players as Reggie Smith, Sadaharu Oh, Steve Carlton, Jim Palmer, Wes Parker, Nellie Briles, Dick Selma, Cleon Jones, Rick Wise, Jim Lonborg and a number of Japanese players. Plus there will be many additional Japanese players available for the first time in the free agency period. Expansion brought three excellent owners into the fold and we now have a solid crew, but we'd like a good owner to take the reins on this squad. Please, let me know if you are interested. |

Hi again,
I'm afraid that we have another new opening. After filling the Denver franchise with an excellent owner, one of our founding owners, a wonderful player, has been forced to give up his team due to outside problems. So, the Philadelphia Keystones franchise is now available. The Keystones have an excellent team, strong and deep, that led the league in wins this season (1962). They feature Bob Gibson, Billy Williams, Gaylord Perry, Frank Howard, Johnny Callison, Jackie Brandt, Hoyt Williams, Woodie Held and prospects Dick McAuliffe, Gene Alley, Johnny Briggs and Luis Tiant. The league is excellent and I put way more time into making it enjoyable than I probably should (or so my wife says). So, please drop me a line at giacalone.anthony@gmail.com if you are interested in taking over this great franchise. -- Anthony Giacalone |

Hunting for a new league in the 60's
Anthony,
After reading about you league and your policies for your managers; I'm very interested in being considered when you have an opening. Actually I am part of a group of three interested parties. I am Jim Schwendeman' my brother Steve Schwendeman and my best friend Al Costa. We have played together in leagues, both APBA and OOTP for 20 years. Most recently we have be involved in three different leagues, two of which have folded. We're looking for a league that lasts! We are in the gray hair society with grown children and settled life styles. Let me know if when and if you have any opening. Jim Schwendeman |
