Salary Floor
Will OOTP 10 have a salary floor? The salary floor is the minimum on which a team MUST spend on contracts so you don't have the Florida Marlins only spending 10 mil a season on contracts and tanking.
It's a rule in the NHL and I think it would make for a great feature in OOTP 10 to further increase competition amongst teams. Thanks for reading |

I think the answer is supposed to be yes, but I can't recall for sure.

It shouldn't have it. It should have the option of having it......

You shouldn't need an option.
You could just set the floor to $0. |

I'd really love to set a max contract amount as well. I need a way to stop the AI from killing itself with massive contracts before the league adjusts to soft or hard caps. We've all seen it.....year 2 and 95% of the teams are in red.

What if a team hasn't reached its salary floor and there are no more decent FAs to sign? It has to give some crummy minor leaguer a $10M contract just to reach the floor? I dunno what that would help.

I presume in real life the team would have to pay the difference into the revenue sharing pool.

But rarely are there not enough legit FA's to get over a set amount by Opening Day. The idea behind a salary floor (which one league I am in does use) is to prevent extreme tanking. A better way is is to base the first seven or so draft picks on a lottery basis between the worst teams. One league I am does that. |

Noooo...just deduct the difference from the teams bottom line at the end of the season.

Incorporating the different free agency system used in other leagues (e.g. restricted and unrestricted free agents) would make for some interesting options for an OOTP league as well. But, it too, would be a several versions in the future. |

How do you do that? I didn't think that this game allowed you to do have a lottery...

Here's how the CDL does it: "The first seven draft slots (draft lottery slots) in the Amateur Draft shall be determined by a weighted lottery starting with the 1995 Amateur Draft. The team that finishes closest to .375 (61-101) for the season will get seven chances out of twenty-eight in the lottery, while the next closest team gets six chances out of twenty eight (and so on). After the first 3 draft slots the next 17 selections will be based on the worst-to-best records of teams that did not make the playoffs. The final 8 draft spots are determined by a combination of playoff results and regular season record. The random numbers generated for the draft lottery as well as any ties related to the draft order will be resolved using the Research Randomizer Form v4.0. The draft order will be calculated and posted in the CDL forum as soon as possible after the World Series." |

oh, thanks for sharing that.
If only they added that feature in the game, may make things more convenient and simpler.
