Whats the deal with all this secret agent nonsense I have to go through to get this game registered? I've gotten many games from the net, and I've never had to go through as much BS as this to get licensed.
I've had nothing but problems trying to get this game licensed online. I don't think it works with AOL, and really, what is the point of the whole thing? I couldn't download the files anyway until I'd paid for it. If someone takes the time to get around downloading the files, couldn't they just as easily get around the licensing? I like the OOTP series, and I'm sure OOTP5 will be a great game if I ever get to play it. But you gotta go a different and simpler route when it comes to licensing. Some of us still have dial-up, and some of us are unfortunate enough to have to use AOL. Take it easy on us, we suffer enough as it is! I know you gotta try and keep piracy to a minimum, but keep things in perspective here. I've paid over $40 for the right to play this game. Ease off a little on the CIA crap so that the average buyer doesn't have to jump through hoops to get their software to run. |

I have no clue what you are talking about, I have never had a problem with elicense. Maybe if you told us your specific problem instead of ranting about something in general we could help.

I had never bought any game online before, and I found this process very simple. I had no problems with it at all.

I think I can help. Just tell me your name, your credit card number, and your expiration date...
... just kidding. I haven't really had a problem wither with eLicence the two times I've bought the game (4 and 5). The files are actually downloadable without buying the license. It's the license that makes them work. I'm sure if you let us know what problem you're having, someone will try to help you.

It has nothing to do with AOL, first and foremost. I used AOL to license OOTP4 and OOTP5, and it worked fine.
Can you go into more detail with the problems you're actually having? |

I've already sent an e-mail off asking for help. My rant was just comments & feedback on e-license, and my opinion of it was unfavorable, thats all. I was wanting to see if this was a general problem among people, and if so, why the whole procedure is necessary.

I also dislike the e-license system. Expect Steve "Damage Control" Kuffrey (not to be confused with the middle reliever of the same name in my fantasy league) to stop by shortly saying how it's currently the best system they have for licensing the game :P.
Seriously though, have you tried contacting the folks at e-license? |

Oh, I've got an E-mail in to them, and I'm sure everything will be fine soon enough (I hope). I've also got a CD on its way to me.
My point is that this type of thing shouldn't even be an issue. Bugs in the game is one thing. A game that works fine but is unusable due to uneccessary security issues is kinda aggravating. I had no trouble getting OOTP3 and 4 to work, same computer and ISP, but they've changed the procedure a little since then. Somethings different anyway. |

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is but I don't think that anything has changed from previous versions, could you please give me some idea what the issue is?

Thats it gpm. This is all a big scam so I can get a free copy of OOTP5. Thats the most annoying part of these forums... any negative feedback or criticism, no matter how legitimate, prompts comments like that. If my feedback isn't welcome, then don't ask for it. I personally think negative feedback, if addressed, makes any product better.
My name is Paul Griffiths, anyone who reads this board and can check on such things can verify that I ordered the game last night, and that I also bought OOTP3 and 4. Steve, my issue is that the online registration wont work at all. I assume its because I'm using AOL 5.0, which is funny sometimes when it comes to direct connection. I try using the offline option thats provided to me, but I connect to the downloaded file and the 'complete process' button, or something of that nature, won't highlight. I'm not as pissed as my comments are making me look. I'm sure E-license will fix the issue. I like OOTP a lot, I'm not gonna stop buying it because of this. I know E-license isn't really your responsibility. I'm just trying to find out if problems like mine are commonplace- I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had issues with the E-licensing. If they are commonplace, maybe another freindlier type of copy protection is called for. If they aren't, then my problem will be fixed soon enough and there are no problems either way. |

Let me know if the issue isn't resolved.

I just tried that and it worked. I don't know why I didn't think of trying that before. Thanks a lot, John.
I still wanna be on record as saying I'm not fond of the e-license system. It reminds me of the codewheels we used to use back in the day. Security should be invisible. I'm gonna go play now. Talk to you all again when Inside the Park comes out :-) |

By the way, I would suspect that the problem your experiencing is "very" rare - and mostly with AOL users. I've seen very few complaints on this board about the elicense process... and the few I have also were using AOL. Give IE a shot to see if that fixes the issue - if not, as you said, I'm sure Via-tech will straighten it out. Henry |

Just a suggestion: if you don't want your comments dismissed as a troll or a scam, then perhaps title the thread a little more diplomatically. For example, "Problems with E-licensing" rather than "This e-licensing system you have sucks!" Otherwise, your legitimate complaining may get confused with trolling. |

where's the apology considering it wasn't a problem with the e-licensing system but a problem with AOL??? I agree with AG, Paul would of gotten boatloads of help with "problems with" rather than your system sucks ... anytime someone with 1-10 posts does that I believe they deserve all the crap they get .... anyways learn a new tone and enjoy your game now

"You catch more flies with honey......"
Well, either that or yell at the top of your lungs while on a motorcycle. Personally, I'd rather try honey ![]() Seriously though, I can see the need for the added security. Markus is a one man show, and piracy can cripple him. Yes, nothing gets past the hard core pirates. However, if this stops "casual" piracy, which I believe it has, then I'm all for it. Plus, the one time I had a problem, they had me up and going in a matter of minutes. Bottom line, if it helps to ensure this game sticks around for a while, then I'm all for it.
