Post Enter the Baseball Maelstrom

The Baseball Maelstrom is forming. A website will be up shortly, but for now I'll summarize the highlights.

The Baseball Maelstrom is a 26 team league using real teams. Each team is led by a great player from the team's history that will remain on the team until retirement (they start at age 18). The teams will be filled by a draft of current players. In addition, each year a historic player will enter the Baseball Maelstrom as a free agent. The first year, Jackie Robinson will be available in the initial draft.

Tired of not making the playoffs? Maybe you can survive the Maelstrom. Eight teams make the regular playoffs just like the real MLB. The other teams can still save face, competing in a triple elimination playoff tournament. Teams are awarded bonus money based on how they finish.

The league will be using actual MLB transaction rules as much as possible including waivers (which can allow trading after the actual trade deadline) and the Rule 5 draft.

TEAM CAPTAINS:
AL EAST
Baltimore: Cal Ripken
Boston: Ted Williams
Cleveland: Bob Feller
New York: Babe Ruth
Toronto: Joe Carter

AL CENTRAL
Chicago: Joe Jackson
Detroit: Ty Cobb
Kansas City: George Brett
Milwaukee: Robin Yount
Minnesota: Harmon Killebrew

AL WEST
Anaheim: Rod Carew
Oakland: Mark McGwire
Seattle: Edgar Martinez
Texas: Roger Clemens (a native Texan)

NL EAST
Atlanta: Hank Aaron
Montreal: Tim Raines
New York: Tom Seaver
Philadelphia: Mike Schmidt

NL CENTRAL
Chicago: Ernie Banks
Cincinnati: Pete Rose
Pittsburgh: Roberto Clemente
St. Louis: Stan Musial

NL WEST
Houston: Nolan Ryan
Los Angeles: Sandy Koufax
San Diego: Tony Gwynn
San Francisco: Willie Mays

If anybody has interest in the league (which should start near the release of OOTP4) email me at spoor@machlink.com to get on the waiting list.

The website is close to complete. It isn't up yet, but will be at www.baseballmaelstrom.com. Once the site is up, teams will be awarded. The draft will be in a few weeks. Email me to get in on the action.

I would like to sign up, but I don't know your e-mail address and the website link you posted was not working for me. Contact me at InfamousMP@aol.com, and if you can please throw me a link.

Either way this sounds like a fantastic idea and you can count on me to give it a shot.

Sounds like a great idea!

On the Rangers, instead of fudging with Clemens you could give them the likes of: Nolan Ryan, Fergeson Jenkins or Gaylord Perry..all HOFers.

I would also love to join if you have any spots left. Your league looks very good just from what you wrote, but I would like to take a look at the league in full.

Isn't it though? It's one of the most original ideas I've heard in a while. If I wasn't so busy I'd ask to join, but I think I'll be checking out the website once in a while just to see how things are going.

NEW FEATURE:

Do you hate having to keep track of a bunch of email addresses of league members? In the Baseball Maelstrom you won't have to. Send mail to teamname@baseballmaelstrom.com (EX. braves@baseballmaelstrom.com) and it will be forwarded automatically to that owners email address. If team ownership changes, you won't have to worry about getting the new information because it will be updated for you. Just keep sending it to the team email address and it will get to the new owner.

In addition to my regular email address (spoor@machlink.com), I can now be reached at commishorr@baseballmaelstrom.com.

Spots are filling up fast as we approach the 26 owner mark. After that point, we will add people to the waiting list.

The website is still on schedule for launch this weekend along with the flash intro movie

I'm interested too. Will the draft be live or list? Live drafts are tough to do with all of the conflicts involved.

Alright, I just love being new to web design!

Turns out that I have to fix many of the links on the site before it will be functional. The site is up, you just won't be able to see many of the pics and won't be able to link to many of the pages.

In addition, I have to turn off the looping on the Flash movie for the site (and it sends you to a password protected portion of the website in error at the end).

For those of you who can't wait:

You can view the slightly flawed movie at

www.baseballmaelstrom.com/maelstrom.swf

You can download the league file at:

www.baseballmaelstrom.com/maelstrom.zip

You can view the 1st draft of the rules at:

www.baseballmaelstrom.com/rules.doc

Teams still available are:

Baltimore - Cal Ripken
Toronto - Joe Carter
Chicago AL - Joe Jackson
Kansas City - George Brett
Milwaukee - Robin Yount
Anaheim - Rod Carew
Seattle - Edgar Martinez
Montreal - Tim Raines
Philadelphia - Mike Schmidt
Cincinnati - Pete Rose
San Diego - Tony Gwynn

If you have interest and can overlook my ineptness at a website so far, email me at commishorr@baseballmaelstrom.com.

I agree, movie is cool. I'm anxious to see the web page when it's done.

I must say that this league is really starting to look good and people are getting the idea of what it can be. The first set of rules look great and can only improve as the league moves along. I for one can not wait until the league gets underway and the draft can begin.

Now I have them.

Of course, the Yankee locker room is looking more like a surgery clinic these past couple months.
