Strikeout Leaders

Edit* Interesting, cuz Eichhorn currently plays Rookie Ball in Arizona Dbacks system (never heard of him before). I guess this guy has a lot to look forward to.

Is there a way to add more good prospects in the drafts? In the first year I only had 1 pitcher that was ranked higher than 4 star. I'm afraid this ruin my league in the long run.

That 80% seems a bit more realistic, thanks for those results!

Thanks for all the hard work, Cubby. Here are some issues I noticed with the Texas 40-man and some of their players.

Players that should be on: SP John Bannister; SP Thomas Diamond; SP Scott Feldman; SP Tommy Hunter; CL Warner Madrigal; SP Luis Mendoza; MR Dustin Nippert; SP Omar Poveda; MR Josh Rupe; SS Joquin Arias; 3B Travis Metcalf; 2B Jose Vallejo; LF Brandon Boggs; CF Julio Burbon

Guys who should be off the 40-man: OF Andruw Jones (signed minor league contract); CF Dustin Majewski; LF Ben Harrison; SS C. Benjamin; SS Omar Vizquel (signed minor league deal); 1B Ian Gac; C Adam Melhuse (signed minor league deal); MR B. Vaughan; MR Y. Maeda; MR Eddie Guardado (signed minor league deal); MR Brendan Donnelly (minor league deal); MR B. Corey; SP E. Ramirez; SP Jason Jennings (minor league deal)

With Hurley and Benoit on the 60-DL, my 40-man should be sitting at 37.

Chris Davis' talent and potential are too low, he should easily be a 4-star or more potential guy. Same for Derek Holland. And German Duran's ability and potential are much too high as he's a 2-star at best. Hope some of this helps and again, thanks for everything you've put into these roster sets.

Though I haven't finished simming 2009 with Cubby's 3.0, as of Aug 1, 09
the standings look like this

NL East - Braves, Mets, Nationals, Marlins, Phillies
NL Central - Brewers, Cards, Reds, Pirates, Cubs, Astros
NL West - Padres, Dodgers, Giants, Rockies, Dbacks

NL Wild card: Dodgers, Mets, Giants, Nationals (all 2 games apart)

AL East - Redsox, Blue Jays, Rays, Yankees, Orioles
AL Central - Twins, Tigers, Whitesox, Indians, Royals
AL West - A's, Mariners, Angels, Rangers

AL Wild Card: Jays, Rays, Yankees, Mariners (all 4 games apart)

I know there's still 2 months left in the season (i'm a slow simmer) but i found this interesting the way the season played out so far.

BTW: Thanks for the hardwork Cubby!

It isn't really possible to control the 40-man roster for non-human controlled teams. The AI will put the players it thinks are best for the 40-man, rather than keep the players that you manually put on it. And Chris Davis' ratings are about right - he is a four star prospect at third base, but a lower rated prospect at first. Which about fits his potential as seen by the various prospect lists.

Cubby,

There are a few superstars that show up when searched but do not appear in FA or on any team. For example:

Fontanesi OF
Alvarado OF
Martinez 3B

Not sure if I am missing something, but these (and presumably others) are "hidden" players in the roster set.

Using CF2009_v3, Staff Payroll on the Front Office page seems to be grossly inflated. For example, with ARI it shows at some ~$13m with scouts and coaches on (~$11m with just coaches on) whereas when I manually add all the salaries from MLB to rookie ball I get some ~$3m. I am told that this applies to other teams as well.

What am I missing???
BUMP.

I am starting to think that this is an OOTP bug rather than a roster set issue. I have posted in OOTP9 in the hope that it will get fixed for OOTP10 as it pretty much kills off having coaches on.

I think you've got it backwards. He's a much better first baseman than third baseman. He'll be the Rangers starting first baseman this season and that's what he played in the minors before coming up. I don't really want to argue about it, I was just letting Cubby know a few issues I noticed with the Rangers.

He is a much better defensive first baseman than third baseman. He's a four star prospect at third but not at first because the comparable talent is so much higher at first base - his offense is more valuable in the game if he plays third. I'm not trying to argue about his quality as a player, just explaining how the game engine is valuing him.

So a guy who is a 30-40 HR guy will be a 4-star guy at 3rd and a 1-star guy at 1st, even though he plays better defense at 1st. If a 30-40 HR guy at first was a below average player there, then I think you'd have a point. Last time I checked though, those guys don't exactly grow on trees (there were 10 in the ML last year). If that's the way the game values him, that's fine, but it doesn't make much sense.

I'm using this set with my 2009 Indians and loving it so far! One question I have is about the facepack that is with the set. Seems like it's missing a lot of pretty popular players, (Jeter, B.Webb, ect.) Anybody else missing a lot of these photos? Am I able to use other photo files (from Padre site) with this roster file?

Thanks for your help - and thank you again Cubby!

Are the ratings from retired players can be "reset".

For instance, Curt Schilling has very crappy ratings. Anyway to fix that?

Or how would you rate him?

Very very nice job by the way. Incredible roster set!

According to the CHONE projections, Davis is projected to have an 808 OPS, which ranks 24th among all 1B. As a 3B, on the other hand, he would be ranked around 12th, tied with Ty Wigginton. Considering that Ian Stewart could play second, Encarnacion and Atkins left field, and Wigginton will probably be a DH, Davis could easily be a top 10 3B next year - if he had the defense for it.

The game essentially ignores defense when doing star ratings. So if you set Adam Dunn's position to SS, I think (this is just a guess) it will rate him 5 stars, regardless of defense.

Bingo. Davis is a pretty good 1B in game, but I'm not really concerned with star ratings, more what his output is. His BA is going to probably regress a lot from last year into the 250-270 range, and while hes gonna have some really good pop, I don't know that he's a player who is all that rare yet at 1B.

Also his stars that I'm looking at are 1 1/2 at 1B current, 2 1/2 which is about right for how stingy the game is with those ratings. I do appreciate the help though with the Rangers org, and I'll see what I can fix there.

Also for those of you playing, I would reset the player development modifiers back to 1 all around -- it seems to be the best balance after all. Perhaps .9 at the most for development speed.

Here ya go. An example of Chris Davis' career. Looks like he rose and fell pretty quickly. Yes 2011 was a great year for the kid. But retired 3 years later. I never changed anything on Cubby's roster set. I simply simmed to 2031 to see what results may happen. Obviously Chris Davis's career could be different if someone actual managed a team he was on.

If you would like to see a certain player, let me know

31 Arizona
32 Atlanta
33 Baltimore
34 Boston
35 Chicago (A)
36 Chicago (N)
37 Cincinnati
38 Cleveland
39 Colorado
40 Detroit
41 Florida
42 Houston
43 Kansas City
44 Los Angeles (A)
45 Los Angeles (N)
46 Milwaukee
47 Minnesota
48 New York (A)
49 New York (N)
50 Oakland
51 Philadelphia
52 Pittsburgh
53 San Diego
54 Seattle
55 San Francisco
56 St. Louis
57 Tampa Bay
58 Texas
59 Toronto
60 Washington

The online leagues that use the export tracker tool need the teams to be numbered like this:

1 Baltimore
2 Boston
3 New York (A)
4 Tampa Bay
5 Washington
6 Chicago (A)
7 Cleveland
8 Detroit
9 Kansas City
10 Minnesota
11 Los Angeles (A)
12 Oakland
13 Seattle
14 Texas
15 Atlanta
16 Florida
17 Montreal
18 New York (N)
19 Philadelphia
20 Chicago (N)
21 Cincinnati
22 Houston
23 San Antonio
24 Pittsburgh
25 St. Louis
26 Arizona
27 Colorado
28 Los Angeles (N)
29 San Diego
30 San Francisco

Because of the way the export tool is written to divide the AL and NL into two columns, it looks for teams 1-14 for column 1 and 15-30 for column 2. Under the new roster sets, I cannot use this tool properly. If I could reassign each team to a different number, I could still use the tool. Otherwise, anyone know of an export tracking tool that works under the new filesets?

Thanks in advance!
Was anyone able to provide an answer to the above question? If so, please point me to it as I need to know how to get this fixed too. Thanks!

Dan
