Question If you could choose one single new feature for OOTP 10...

... what would it be? (AKA what feature would make you want OOTP 10 NOW?)

I'll give you a completely unrealistic answer, Markus, because I doubt there's any way changes of the magnitude I'm about to suggest are doable within the time frame available; they're much more likely OOTP 11 (or later) features. But I'll mention them anyway because I think they are vital changes to adopt at some point. These changes are:

Completely revamped financial system to make it more user customizable and controllable along with more historically accurate, and revamping the league interaction system in the game to allow ALL leagues to be fully unique, separate entities with each having their own rules, options, settings, and league totals.

(I mention the two things above together because they really go hand-in-hand. To best accomplish either it's actually necessary to work on them simultaneously as one unified reform.)

My favorites are pretty extensive and I don't expect either but here you go:

I would either beg for MLB Front Office Manager style in games graphics or a rewrite of the engine for individual pitch types.

The full ability to create ratings in the game based on real life stats

which would include

1) Creating ratings from MLB stats
2) Creating Major league equivalents from all different levels of minor league baseball, and other leagues
3) Create future ratings based stats versus age

Consider making Stuff being a composite rating like Contact:

Stuff = f(Velocity, Movement, Control)

Since I assume we're talking new features and not bug fixes, I'll say that tops on my wish list is a more robust contract negotiation system. Specifically, I'd love to see:
  • Bring agents into the picture. Different agents would have different styles (some would go for top dollar, some for maximum contract length, some might have better relationships with one team vs. another, etc.). A player's choice of agents would become a factor in determining whether you want to extend or trade him.
  • Signing bonus demands for players coming out of high school/college. The very best (and greediest) of these could demand a major league contract. These demands would be known before the draft took place. Again, these players would be represented by agents and teams would have the ability to negotiate the demands down.
  • Allow free agents to be shopped around like they would be in real life. If Team X makes an offer, that player's agent should be on the horn to other interested teams saying, "We've got this offer on the table; can you beat it?" In fact, certain agents should make claims like that even if there really isn't an offer on the table (hello, Scott Boras!).
  • Make it about more than just money. Other factors that should be influencing a player's decision on where to sign could include what role the team promises him, special contract clauses (plane tickets, a personal trainer/interpreter, etc.), the record of the team, the reputation of the team in terms of how they treat players, etc. Some of this is already in the game but isn't communicated as well as it could be.
  • Inject more personality into the negotiation process. We have personality traits in the game; let's put them to greater use. Give us some more dialogue reflecting a player's personality, mood and reactions to offer. Even further, give us multiple choice response options to players (i.e. "Player X says he wants assurances he'll be the starting 1B. Would you like to respond by A.) Promising he'll start at 1B, B.) Offering to start him at a different position, C.) Telling him he'll have to accept a bench role?")
Hey, you asked.

I'd like the game to be able to read my mind and set itself up to exactly how I want it to be.

I want the history section to basically do everything that Baseball-Reference.com does. More specifically, having the franchise pitcher page look like BRef rather than the jumble it is now, track OPS+, give comparable players by age and overall with similarity scores, show Gamelogs, have a Play Index....

I'd marry that OOTP.

A mode that is selectable to make the game less realistic and easier to get into for people new to the game.

I am sure all this can be done with the sliders but it would be cool if they had like a pre-configured choice of realistic or arcade. Kind of like in the gran turismo game.

If I knew that the pitching model was going to be redone or updated in some way so as to clarify or solve the pitcher endurance issue (RPs with an endurance of 3 on a scale of 10 being assigned as SPs by the AI), then I would want to buy the game right now.

Thanks for your attention to our concerns Markus!

Rivalries, which would have the effect of driving up attendance and, possibly, slightly tweaking player performance (a la the "clutch" rating). To wit:

1) Geographical - the game should be aware of how close two cities are to each other and increase fan interest accordingly.

2) Evolving - if two teams are historically battling for the pennant, or have played an inordinate number of close games, rivalries can evolve naturally.

3) User-selected, so you can "force" a rivalry if you have a particular storyline or some other reason.

That's what should really happen, but I thought I would shoot for something that was more probable.

Ah, just one? How to only pick one? I need playoff byes... I need a new financial system... I need a new personnel system (where hiring works and I can promote/demote through any level)... I need individual pitch ratings... I need a salary floor option in addition to the salary cap... I need the SP/RP/CL positions eliminated and just have Pitcher... I need promotion days... I need rivalry teams...

There's more, too, I just can't think straight at the moment.

I guess if I was at gunpoint and had to pick one, I'd go with a revamped financial system, since that has a larger reach across the rest of the game than the others.

But I'd really like them all....

My preference has always been for existing features to work properly before new features are added. Many transactions-related features still need additional polish.

Updated pitching model and having pitches actually mean something.

Failing that, a better way to handle the draft in online leagues (it's a real pain to do right now).
