Exclamation Spring Training games...no option for warm weather places?

Just a minor complaint, but why is there no option for spring training games to be played in warm weather climates---it is just cosmetic, but still it seems rather ridiculous to be playing a game in February in Detroit or Cleveland when the temperature is 19 degrees and it is snowing...

Perhaps have the option to assign a spring training stadium each team will play in...

This is a good point. Have you posted it in the OOTP10 suggestion threads?

Spring training is an afterthought in OOTP. It makes no sense to ask for something like new spring training cities until spring training works like real life. (e.g. non-roster invitees).

Try spring training in Anchorage and Whitehorse. The Yukon Prospectors have sunny spring games where the temperature is lucky to clear zero.

Here's a related question - does temperature and weather have an influence over injuries? This question becomes more than cosmetic if more players get injured in the cold. On top of that, I think temperature does influence offensive levels - is that right?

I would think there would be quite a few instances of broken hands from making contact with the ball, or at least some serious pain from their hands ringing.

Actually, this is an interesting point. Especially since I am pretty sure that in OOTP the weather effects both injuries and results.

Yup. Doom on Yukon.

There's a lot of things wrong with spring training, like teams playing extra innings, teams not playing in warm weather sites, teams overworking their pitching, not having NRI's, and the list goes on.

I'm not sure if cold weather increases injuries but I edited the weather data for all my major league cities so the temperatures in March are equal to June.

I think I suggested a while back that all clubs should have an "alternate" stadium, which could be used for spring training games. Or at least schedule all ST games at a neutral, warm-weather park.

I've made an official suggestion to that effect in the OOTP 10 suggestions thread (I may have done it last year too, I can't recall for certain).

Anyway, I suggested teams in OOTP ought to be able to specify three different home parks: one of those would be for spring training games, while the other two would be for regular season games.

So, you'd have a slot where you define the club's spring training park. Then you'd have another slot where you define the club's main regular season park. Then, lastly, you have a final slot where you define the club's alternate regular season park. You need not specify an alternate regular season park if you don't want to. But, in MLB history, quite a few teams have played their regular season contests at more than one home park during a season, so there really ought to be a way to recreate that in the game. It'd also mean historical leagues could have this small detail made much more accurate than is the case at present.

Sounds cool...perhaps you would be able to specify the percentage of games at the alternate park and it would automatically schedule games or series at those parks...

That'd be one way of doing it. You could also specify a certain weekday as being the day the alternate park is used, or other similar types of criteria. I was also thinking the user could specify which games are played in the alternate park by designating them on the team's schedule screen, or having a dedicated column in the schedule file where it could be entered directly by those creating or editing schedule files. For historical leagues, the alternate parks could then be specified in the schedule files and the historical league player need not figure it out themselves, it'd already be done for them.

In terms of historical examples of alternate ballparks, the Boston Red Sox played Sunday home games at Braves Field instead of Fenway Park from 1929-1932. The Cleveland Indians, from 1940-1946, played Sunday, holiday, and night games at Cleveland Stadium and played their other home games at League Park. There are also the numerous times when clubs moved to a new park during a season, such as 1970 when the Pittsburgh Pirated played the first half of the season at Forbes Field then played the second half at Three Rivers Stadium.
