Cut Down League

I decided that there are too many teams in the majors. So I am going to delete half of the teams. But instead of just leaving the players as free agents, I am going to combine two teams and get a new team. My question is, how should I do this? Should I come up with reasons for pairing teams, or should it be random? The way I see it, I could combine similar teams, or completely different teams. Your reply is appreciated.

can't do something like that, Helton or Giambi wouldn't play.

I say release everyone and do a draft, best way to distribute talent

I like the pennant idea, but the Helton/Giambi situation would be a problem.

I always liked the draft idea, because its fast and easy, but Im still going to find a way to do my combining teams idea.

I would combine the best and worst teams from last year. Then just continure like that, 2nd best with 2nd worst, 3rd besat with 3rd worst, etc. It should provide some balance.

Twins15, I could use last years stats, but wouldnt it work better to sim a season with the normal teams, then reset and combine them?

Here's one thought to eliminate several squads. Cut teams in the geographic area. Consolidate the Mets and Yankees, Cubs and White Sox, Giants and A's, Dodgers and A's, etc...

Mets and Yankees???? NEVER!!!!

Seriously though, you'd have to cut down to an even number to allow OOTP to create a schedule. I would cut down to 20.

Rank the teams by 2002 record in each league
Top 10 stay the same
Bottom 20 combine: 11 with 30, 12 with 29, 13 with 28, etc...
Should give you an extremely competitive league
Since I am extremely bored, I'll try all of the ideas so far. Personally, I like metsgeek's idea the most.

Here are some notes about the teams:

Cleveland Rockies
-I changed their home stadium back to Coors Field. I feel that this makes more sense, seeing as this is a very powerful team.

Houston Tigers
-Has the same starting lineup and pitching rotation as the Astros

Florida Cubs
-Very young starting pitching: Wood, Prior, Beckett, Burnett, Clement, Penny, and just about every other starter

Im going to sim a test season now, I'll post a brief summary soon...

...and to be fair I'm turning the DH on in both leagues (there should be at least one other good hitter in each team)

You could do this but allow position changes - let helton play a little RF or LF or even 3B

1st off, how funny is it that not 1 member of the Tigers could start when combined with the Astros.
