Face By Numbers Update ***BETA***
It's been a couple of weeks since I announced that Face By Numbers, a program that allows for easy facepack/photo creation, was nearly complete. I've spent the past couple of weeks refining and cleaning up the code, redesigning the interface and making improvements. I'm very proud to announce (thankfully, because I'm exhausted
) that Face By Numbers is now ready for beta testing.Below are six screen shots of version 1.0a: This shows the general interface and what a clean FacePack looks like before editing. Layers in this facepack include eyes, noses, mouths, cap logos, card backs and extras and can be interchanged very easily at the press of a button. ![]() This picture shows the FacePack after its ColorZones are chosen. ![]() This picture shows me messing around with some of the layers created by blueturf (Blueturf, I hope you don't mind) for the FaceGen photopacks. As you can see, the program isn't just for coloring sprites. It has full, masked layering capabilities. The caps, uniforms and faces can be switched and modified extremely easily. ![]() Same FacePack, converted to black-and-white. ![]() Same FacePack, with the card back layer visible and a TOPPS card selected. I'm looking for a very small handful of beta testers, as I want to keep beta testing as manageable as possible. I prefer that beta testers have some ability with graphics programs such as PhotoShop, PhotoPaint, etc., but it is hardly a requirement. After all, the program looks to cater to those who have very little experience creating and/or using graphics. Instructions for downloading and using the software will be provided via e-mail. The tentative ETA for the opening of the beta test will be next Monday, April 21. If you are interested in applying for the beta program, please send an e-mail to lefty_hurler@yahoo.com with the subject FACE BY NUMBERS BETA TEST. Include in the e-mail any useful abilities you have that you feel would be of benefit. Beta testers will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis. Please don't send inquiries as to your status, acceptance or decline to the beta program. Accepted testers will receive an e-mail with further instructions. I'd be happy to field any questions here in the forums.

I'll test if ya wish... I'm above average at most graphic editing progs... I can always get my wife to help and make it a "together" event... a clever way to try and screw around with OOTP.

Well, that didn't take long:

Darn, that looked like it had the potential to be very very good and would have fictional leagues even better. Hopefully he sees this somehow.

This actually didn't work out so well. I tried out the beta version and reported many bugs to him but he never got back. You have to do a lot of work in order to compose a set of random pictures. With that amount of work, one might as well just compose a set from scratch or from facegen.

Cuss, would you be willing to donate that beta version to the cause? And if so, are there any programmers out there that feel they could finish this if they had a beta version in hand? Or would this be sort of "stealing" lefty's work?
I'm just frustrated, because this seems like it would be a great add-on. And I really like the cartoony looks of the faces it creates.

No problem at all. I wasn't sure if that would be considered ethical or not. Hopefully lefty hurler will return one day.

on topic MR, wasn't there a previous face pack generation program of some sort out there (can't remember who by). Also, I guess we could use fictional facepacks instead- although their ae obvious concerns with running out of those... |

I know that FaceGen is supposed to be do-able. But I don't know much about using that one. Also, I really prefer the "cartoon-ish" look that Face by Numbers was going for.
And yeah, running out of faces is becoming a problem for the AFBL. That's why I was so looking forward to lefty's util.

Are you guys aware of my Fictional Face pack ? It's an older set of real players that were artistically enhanced to make them unrecognizable (for the most part).
Here's a sample... ![]() Henry Last edited by Henry; 02-15-2004 at 03:45 PM. |
