Shea Stadium,Queens,NY-The final game of this series had the Phils Steve Carlton facing off with the Mets Tom Seaver in a rematch of their 10 inning classic from earlier this year.In today's game, both pitchers were absolutely dominant once again and the teams entered the 9th inning tied at 1.Following a scoreless top half,Mets leadoff man Jim Fregosi walked to start the bottom of the inning, and was then sacrificed to second before Carlton intentionally walked Dave Marshall.Next, in a brazen piece of strategy, the Mets attempted a double steal that stunned the Phils catcher Tim McCarver who in his haste threw the ball into left field allowing Fregosi to easily score giving the Mets the stunning 2-1 victory.

WP-Tom Seaver(6-5)
LP-Steve Carlton(8-2)
HR-None

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-Finally home after a miserable road trip in which they finished 2-9,the Phils welcomed the Reds to town in the first of 3 straight series' against western division opponents. In the game, newly acquired Phillies pitcher Jim Kaat pitched marvelously going 8 and two thirds innings as the Phils defeated the Reds 3-2.Not only did Katt pitch a good game,he also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run and 2 RBI including the game winner, talk about debut! On his departure from the game,Phils fans insisted and got a curtain call from their new pitcher who was all smiles after the game.

WP-Jim Kaat(5-5)
LP-Don Gullett(2-5)
S-Dick Selma(4)
HR-PHI-Don Money(7),Jim Kaat(1),CIN-Johnny Bench(13)

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-The Phillies bats woke up today, tagging Reds starter Jack Billingham for 6 runs on 8 hits while Phils starter Wayne Twitchell did just enough before turning the game over to relievers Mac Scarce and Dick Selma who combined to close the door on Cincinnati to preserve the Phils 6-5 victory.

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-In game one of this three game series between the Phillies and Astros,Phils starter Steve Carlton was one out away from his 9th win of the season when with a man on first, Houston 1B Lee May deposited a 2-2 fastball into the visitors bullpen tying the game at 3 and forcing extra innings. In the extra frames,Phillies reliever Dick Selma sparkled, allowing just one hit in two and two thirds innings as the Phillies pulled out a 4-3 victory thanks to a Craig Robinson RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning.Selma, who struggled a bit in the early going has now settled in nicely and has become the Phillies top fireman.

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-Despite his unhappiness about being traded to a potential last place team,Phillies starting pitcher Jim Kaat is having a bit of a resurgence since coming over from the American League.Following a solid performance in his debut,Kaat followed it up today by allowing just 5 hits while going the distance in the Phillies 5-3 victory over the Astros. The Phils will go for the sweep tomorrow with Jim Lonborg facing off with Dave Roberts.

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-In the third and final game of the series, the Astros finally put it all together as every batter in the lineup except pitcher Dave Roberts had at least one hit in Houston's 7-2 pounding of the Phillies. As for Roberts,he made up for his ineptitude with the stick by pitching 9 strong innings in which he allowed just 7 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 1.

LP-Jim Lonborg(5-7)

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-The Phils rudely welcomed the Braves into Veterans Stadium today as they pounded out 13 hits including 2 home runs by Willie Montanez as well as rookie third baseman Mike Schmidt's first ever hit(a single to left) as the Phillies cruised to a 6-1 victory. Not to be overlooked,Phillies rookie SP Dave Downs was nearly unhittable, going the distance while allowing 5 hits and 1 unearned run and striking out 5.

LP-Phil Niekro(6-6)

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-Braves third baseman Darrell Evans' 2 runs double in the top of the sixth coupled with Larvell Blanks' solo home run in the 7th gave Atlanta all they would need to take down Phils ace Steve Carlton thanks to the fantastic effort of no less than 4 Braves pitchers who combined to hold Philadelphia to a single run in the Braves 3-1 victory.

Twitchell Pitches No Hitter!

Veterans Stadium,Phila,Pa.-13,798 lucky fans witnessed history in the making tonight as Phillies starting pitcher Wayne Twitchell no hit the Atlanta Braves nearly a year to the day from the Last Phillie no hitter, thrown by Rick Wise last June 23rd in Cincinnati. When interviewed after the game, the normally reserved Twitchell was all smiles as he proclaimed this to be his proudest achievement. In the 2-0 victory,Twitchell allowed just two walks that were immediately erased by double plays giving him the distinction of facing the minimum 27 batters for the game. Here's the complete box score.

That's awesome! I've never had a no hitter for any of my teams. Do you play out your games?

I must admit, I never heard of Dave Downs. While he had a brief career in real life, his stats were good, so I wonder why?

Anyway, keep up the good work, I'm enjoying this thread, and following along.

It was awesome.I do play out all of my games and it's taken almost 6 full seasons for me to get my first no hitter.Actually, there's only been one other one for any team in my universes,it was by Clark Griffith of the New York Highlanders in 1905.As for Downs,I don't know what his story was,he was a bit before my time(I was born in 71) and truthfully I'd never heard of him before starting this dynasty.
