Represent Your Alma Mater in the Ultimate Challenge
At this time, there is not sufficient interest in this league to proceed.
Picture it. A blank slate. Everyone starts the same: $10,000,000 in 1966 dollars and the responsibility of signing an entire 25 man roster. Everyone will have the same finances and everyone will start with no players. It's the ultimate challenge. Who is really the best GM out there when everything is equal and there are no ping pong balls giving one team Sandy Koufax? There are other wrinkles, too. Team names will be each GM's alma mater. Or your high school or grad school if you prefer. So if you choose Duke, you'll be the Duke Blue Devils. As we advance, the rookie draft that matches our year will be used. So in year two, it will be 1967 and so on. Each year, the leading RBI man and the winningest pitcher from a previous season will be entered into the Free Agent pool. This is not done because RBI and Wins are the best indicators of a player’s ability, but because it will add a quirk to the process. 1901 will be the first year used and we will progress forward, a year at a time, so that 1902 will be next and then 1903 and so on. When a player has already been used, the next best player will be imported. And finally, no ratings! Stars will be used, as will fielding ratings. Yearly recalc is on. No coaches or scouting. There are participation rules - they lead to a better league for everyone. You must export at least once every two weeks (six sims) and you must write two 200 word articles or one 400 word article each season. If you do not meet these requirements, you will be placed on probation. If you do not meet these requirements again while on probation, or you are placed on probation for a third time, you are done in the league. We sim three times a week, seven days each, on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday @ 10 PM ET. Our first sim will be Sunday January 4th. I will accept applications until Friday, December 26th. Decisions will be released Sunday, December 28th @ 10 PM ET. Applications should be sent to . Please include your first and last name, board handle, the city and state you live in, and the school you would like to use. Please include back up schools in case someone else takes your school. Ties will be broken based on whose application was first received. You may select a school you did not go to, but I prefer that you do not. First choice will be given to GMs who attended the school they choose. Obviously, you're on the honor code. Also in the application please state why you're a good GM and include links to other leagues you're in. you must own the game, it's on sale right now. Also, please tell me a little bit about yourself. As much as you please, but a little bit is fine. I just want to get to know you. You can view the free agent pool, but there's not much to see with ratings off, stars hidden in the HTML, player pictures currently not working and it's sorted alphabetically. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this post, Sincerely, Commissioner - The Ivy League Last edited by rem; 11-22-2009 at 01:11 AM. |

How rude of me! I asked you to tell me about yourself without telling you about me. I am a young person, 23 next Wednesday, who is drifting in and out of college. I'd like to go onto a career in writing, ideally sports journalism but I might opt for the financially more lucrative corporate communications field. I’ve been playing OOTP since 2002 and baseball mogul before that. I used to be a pretty big force in the online league arena but I’ve had 2 ½ years off from being a commissioner and haven’t played in an online league in awhile. This league very well may be my only OOTP endeavor, online or solo, so you know you’ll be getting my full attention.
Oh, and don't worry if you didn't go to Harvard. I am probably playing as the HCC (Howard Community College) Dragons.

Come on? Nobody wants to play? I am open to suggestions for improvement: liking changing the year or ditching the imported free agent, turning recalc off or turning ratings back on. Speak up!

Hey, I've taken a long time off from online leagues in OOTP... but I'd be interested in playing as my college.. shoot me a email at Matty86 at gmail in case I don't check the forum, I check my email a few hundred times a day.... hell I'd be interested in doing the league with just a few owners, we could move faster that way

This is interesting...finding someone who lives so close to me.
I'd be interested in this league, if it actually got going. I went to UMD for a semester (live in Beltsville), then transferred to Grove City College in PA where I finished school. I'm taking some online classes from HCC now, though. I'd certainly never play as the Dragons in a league though! |

Ouch Grove City is no fun - I had a friend that went there. Do they still have the shoe in the door and feet on the floor at all times when theres a guy and girl in the room?
I went to Saint Vincent - still not much fun, but more than Grove City. Darn Catholic Colleges!

Yeah, they do. I graduated 2 years ago, and my sister is a freshman there now. Obviously the "feet on the floor" is more of a "we say it like this, but you all know what we really mean" type of rule. It's not like if a girl is in your room and sitting on a couch indian-style and the RA walks in, you get in trouble because her feet aren't on the floor. But the concept is still there. And there are frats there that don't exactly follow that rule...at all...and somehow get away with it. I was in a frat there, but we kept it PG. The best part was one one of the guys used a baby shoe as their shoe in the door, so the door was really only half an inch open.
