Speed a factor in close plays?
Where there is a "close" play described in the pbp (bunt, slow roller, dp attempt, etc.), does the game look at the runners' speed when determining the outcome?
I always thought a speedster had a better chance of beating out a dp or getting an infield hit, but recently I've seen some guys with D or E speed doing that. Is it random?

It might just be me, but it seems like speed guys get more infield hits and avoid more DPs than D and E guys. Of course it also seems to depend on the fielder's range rating too. An 'E' 3B should have a harder time throwing-out a baserunner who drops-down a bunt, even if his speed is an E.

Speed does make a difference in infield hits and beating out DP's. I can only see the distinction with "A" players.....can't observe much difference with B-E guys though...IMHO.

You can have slow guys involved in a lot of close plays. It just means that a better runner would have meant that a throw probably wouldn't have been attempted. Same thing with fielders: below-average fielders will dive a lot, but for balls that a better guy would have gotten too without extraordinary effort.
Why else do you think Jeter's uniform is always so dirty?
