A 10 point win in which they never trailed against the #2 team in the nation is pretty decisive. USC had a great chance to beat either of these teams if they hadnt messed up early in the season. Like I said earlier the best team doesnt always have to win for the system to work. The Patriots would have beat the Giants 8 out of 10 times they played last year but we dont call them the Champs do we? So if the NCAA did a playoff and it ended up Penn St vs Alabama would that system be flawed as well because the best team didnt win? |

Nah Im not new I just dont take part in these arguments very often because it is pointless to try and get someone to change their opinion via the internet. I can usually asmit when someone makes a good point about something but even I have a hard time changing my mind on something. In this case Im with the majority that want the playoff however Im not going to make a case for USC or Utah because USC had their chance and blew it and as much as people want to think Utah would have a chance they just wouldnt. Their conference has improved leaps and bounds in the past 5 years but they still arent at the level of the big 5. |

Not nearly as flawed as a system in which the games don't even get played.

their last 5 wins before the bowl game were unimpressive to say the least they beat a texas tech team in their bowl game that was as interested in being there as florida was last year against michigan their loss was no better than usc's i'm still trying to determine if their loss was better than utah's.... |

They did earn it on the field. The college football season is like a year long playoff in which USC blew their chance by losing a game they should have won by 21. The two most deserving teams were in the championship game and the better team won. The only other team that could be in the equation but the common sense index would tell you they wouldnt stand much of a chance is Utah. The positive to their season is now they can start out next season ranked higher and should they have a similiar result they may just get in the title game. Reputation plays a huge part in how the BCS works therefore I dont feel bad for USC. They started the season ranked very high and blew it themselves. So why aren't you calling for the only team who won all of their games in the "year long playoff" to be the champion?

Because his analogy is flawed to begin with.

Florida passed USC the week they beat a vastly overrated Georgia team. That's the problem with this - everyone THINKS the SEC & Big 12 (this season) is great top to bottom, so a win over a bad Georgia team vaults you higher than it should, as does a win over a bad LSU team, as does a win over an overrated Texas Tech team, as does a win over an overrated Missouri team. So what did USC do to blow their chance between the time they both lost and were rated higher than Florida and the end of the regular season? |

They arent in a top conference. Impossible to compare them to the other top teams at this point. Not fair but it is what it is. Im thinking everyone in this thread knows that the talent levels in the different conferences is substantial. When was the last time a team from a non power conference won the NCAA Championship in basketball in which they have a tournament? My educated guess says the talent differential in football is even greater than that. |

How is it a year long playoff when the top teams don't actually play each other?

There is well over 100 teams in college football. Id love to know what you are going to propose that wont have some flaws. An 8 team playoff? You dont think teams 9-20 are going to have complaints? The 65 field NCAA tournament has 6-7 teams each year that arent happy. Its impossible to come up with a great system unless of course you plan on having each team play 120 games each year. |

Hell, Texas BEAT Oklahoma straight up. Interesting that you bring up the NCAA Tournament. Each year 6-7 teams aren't happy because they feel they were one of the best 65 teams, sure. However, is there any argument about who the National Champion is at the end of the tournament? I'm pretty sure there isn't an argument over which team is THE BEST at the end of the season.

Why Utah? (They beat Michigan and won all their games in a bad conference) Texas,USC and youd have to include Texas Tech if you want to include Texas all had a chance if they handle their own business. It wouldnt have bothered me if USC was in the championship but if floors me when people say they belonged there instead of ? If USC was as great as everyone wants to think they wouldnt have lost to Oregon St and put themselves in postion to be left out. |
