I just want to add something. I was just able to get the #1 pitching prospect, Jesse Foppert, 22 years old, for Lew Ford, 26 years old, a 1 Star minor leaguer that is on the Twins. So, it is not just that you can trade bad veterans for great prospects, but I was able to trade a bad prospect for a good prosepct.

I used to have "issues" with how trading works in STB2k3 and OOTP5, but now I approach things the way Sweed suggests, and I'm generally satisfied with the results.

If I have a guy or two to deal, I just find a team that 1) has a hole my guy can fill and 2) has a guy that I need. Sometimes they won't deal, but sometimes they will.

My basic approach to trading is just "try to get what you need and don't try to take advantage of the AI." Works for me and it "feels" realistic.

Just my 2 cents.

I'll save some trouble.

Person one: The trading AI is too easy.
Person two: The trading AI is too hard.
Person three: I agree with #1. This is broken, fix it.
Person four: I agree with #2. This is broken, fix it.
Person five: I think it's fine.
Persons 1-4: You're wrong. It's obviously broken. This sucks. Fix it.
Persons 2 and 4: Yeah, because I'd like to be able to make a trade.
Persons 1 and 3: What are you talking about? I can make any trade I want. I can make trades I don't want. I can make trades without turning on the computer. FLAWED!
Person six: Why don't you try only making trades you think are fair?
Person 1: Because the game is broken, and it needs to be fixed. I shouldn't have to make my own rules. It should be fixed the way I want it, making trading harder.
Person 3: Absolutely.
Persons 2 and 4: NO! EASIER! My god, I haven't made a trade in 27 seasons.
Persons 1 and 3: HARDER!
Persons 2 and 4: EASIER!
Persons 1 and 3: HARDER!
Persons 2 and 4: EASIER!
Persons 1 and 3: HARDER!
Persons 2 and 4: EASIER!
Person 5: I still think it's fine. I don't know what you guys are talking about.
Persons 1-4: Fanboy.
Person 5: Malcontent.

I'm not. I'm just stating that this trade bug with the prospects values and stuff has been talked about on numerous occasions.

Unhappy ruins the challenge for me

I love the game, and I appreciate most of the 5.10 fixes. I was really happy with this patch...until I hit the trading screen.

A good part of the enjoyment of this game for me is the challenge of gradually improving my team through trades. 5.10 just makes it too easy. I'll be going back to 5.01 until the next update

While those words are true Steve, I have to agree twins said about his trade. That one was obviously messed up.

I'm not questioning that at all, I just feel that it would take an "act of God" to make trading AI that folks agree on. I don't care how long you spend on it or if that is the only thing you program and try to sell. MrWorkrates statement will be true when the next patch comes out and when OOTP8 comes out. I have learned the "nature of the beast".

The goal, however, is to limit the number of people complaining. That is a tough task, but possible.

My two cents...only worth one of course

*edit*. I can't believe I spent so much time on this post and it offers nothing to this discussion...It wasn't offensive but there's just no point. I trust that with or without my example and points Markus will continue improving this feature.

*deleted all from before*.

Sorry about that.

I've just changed my mind.

I'm going to make a copy of my current league, than go on with 5.10, trying my usual best to get good trades. Maybe the AI knows something I don't?! Maybe the other team has a cruddy scout, or one that has just misjudged a player...or maybe those criticisms apply to my scout.

In any case, Markus & Company's updates have been pretty solid so far (OOTP4/5), so I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. I'll keep that copy around, though, just in case my team starts slaughtering the opposition.l

I think we can all agree that trading is definitly something that's a matter of opinion. I really like the new interface, in fact, we're almost to my favorite trading interface: Front Page Sports series where you select a player, hit a button and a list of players the other teams would trade for that particular player came up. This is close, but you have to click on every team to 'shop' the player.

That being said, the trading seems really messed up and I think it has to do with the AI evaluating stats more than ratings now, which is good for vets, but not rookies. Hopefully Markus can tighten this up a bit.

I'm not going to 'evaluate' every trade to see if it was fair or not, I don't have the time and that's not why I bought the game. Maybe I'm wrong here, only time will tell.

I'll evaluate my recent trade later on in the year, he's on my player tracker!

Maybe Markus should come out with 2 or 3 versions each year with different options and different screens. That way, you could pick the one you want to use until he comes out with three more next year ?!?!?!

.....oh wait... that's exactly what he is doing now

(problem is some people are never satisfied)

Thumbs up

I think the new trade screen is a large improvement over the old.
I try (not always successfully) to keep my trades in a realistic mode. Theres no real fun in taking advantage of the computer.
i also agree that no trade system will ever satisfy everyone.

IMO there should be trading toggle button.

Hard trades, medium trades, and easy trading.
