Haha yeah Rio was a pretty solid team after the merger. It is nice to see you guys are hangin around. For a league dullard you sure had your team on the winning track as well, Mark. This is almost turning into a WHBL reunion thread.

On a side note, I have been bugging my bro JTSMOOTH to start up a league. We've been talking about it since before the WHBL even died. Who knows if anything will ever materialize but it is at least fun to pester him about it.

I suppose I shall continue my search to fill the void left by the WHBL. Would be fun to compete against some of you in a league again.

In the meantime I'll continue to be an out of work GM.

For a guy with time on his hands, the best league going is the FOOL.

The Front Office Offseason League (FOFC's OOTP House League) - Front Office Football Central

It is a fast sim league, the whole season goes off in one sim, every Friday night. Screw up? There's always next week! The league founder is still around, running a team and helping steer the development of league house rules, etc. The current commish does an excellent job and is a frequent contributor on this forum in the bug/tech areas, if not others. The commish also is NOT an owner, something I find very appealing in any on line league. To me it speaks volumes to the interest level of the league that someone is willing to JUST commish. Plus the impartiality.

You may find the one sim for the season thing odd, but once you try, its hard to go back to 3 months for one season. The rest of the week's schedule is well thought out, and it is possible to skip a sim or 2 and still be ready for the season. Once you grasp the league finances and the expected results of star/average players, it is not hard to have a competitive team. One team has become a major dynasty, but only after suffering with 16 years (WEEKS!) of very high draft picks. In the past decade, the other 3 playoff spots have been claimed by various teams. In a sixteen team league, we only have one vacancy right now, and one owner willing to give up his team once we have a taker.

Its a good group, occassionally feisty but everyone's opinion is heard and considered.

Everyone was part of the GUBA or its predecessors at one point or another, eh?

Did I get someone's sloppy seconds?

Nice to see some of you guys are still hangin around. The WHBL was definitely one of the best leagues around and I still look around this board every now and again looking to find something similiar.

It's still something I think about doing from time to time. One of these days I'll stop thinking about it and actually do it.

Well like it was said before, count me in if you do. Also anyone hear from Eric at all? It is shocking that he just disappeared and want to know he is doing alright.

I wish I could say I had, but unfortunately I've never gotten any response to any of my attempts at emailing him. I even tried his work email once with no luck.

Well, crap. I was getting ready to try that myself. Rob (the Santiago Rob) e-mailed me the password to keep playing the WHBL as a solo league. I ran through a season, came back to it a few weeks later, and...couldn't remember the password.

And couldn't find where I had written it down.

I still don't remember it.

(I ran San Juan - twice - BTW.)

Even with the password, the league is dead at this point. It's been what, nine months since we simmed?

Baseball Chronicle is a new league that I also enjoy because of its faster pace and concept. I don't think there is a vacancy, though.
The Chronicle has two openings right now. As Bailey said, it's got a fairly quick pace and a somewhat unique concept. As commish, I don't run a team, so there's no conflict of interest either.

If you get that password, I would like to continue it as a solo as well....

That is a pretty good outlook. There was still a lot of interest and judging by this thread alone it seems that people have not forgotten about the league.

I know I still have a good grasp on my team and where we were headed. It is like riding a bike. I am certain that if Eric suddenly appeared and wanted to fire the league up again, it wouldn't be so difficult to do.

Hey everyone,

This is the former Jacksonville and New Orleans GM. I've been missing the WHBL, too. I've just joined the POTD and it looks like a real solid league so far. It's an OotP8/2007 league and there are still vacancies if you look in the forum for 8/2007.

As for the password, I know that Rob was in Corporate League Baseball and the Baseball Maelstrom as well. So to get in touch with him for the password, you could go look for him there. Hopefully he hasn't forgotten the password by now either.

The USBA is in it's 27th season but it rarely has openings so that is why noone hears about it on this forum. It is the best fictional league out there but I am a bit biased.

That actually does look like a pretty cool league. Thanks for the link.

Whbl

I'm back after my hiatus from OOTP as well.

Jim here, you might remember me from such franchises as the WHBL's New Orleans Pelicans (before giving them up for the last season).

I love the WHBL reunion thread. It would be great to get the band back together. I remember getting an email back in June from Eric saying he was starting the league back up again, and I requested to get back in. He replied saying there would be an opening for me. That was the last I heard from him.

Truly sad. Anyway, it would be great to get a league back together with a bunch of the same owners. I had a great time with you guys, even if I could never managed to out-manage DC

Definitely would be fun to get something going with the former WHBL'ers since it does not look like the old league will be revived by Eric (and since no one has the password or power to commish it themselves). Like I said before, I have been talking to JTSMOOTH about starting a league, him as the commish of course. I think you guys just need to all bug him about it too, hehe. Maybe then he will get something going. Things are busy this time of year but perhaps after the new year he will get more serious about it. Seems like we'd have a decent pool of likeminded GMs to kick things off.

On a side note, Martin (DCowner) and I are both playing in tMBU,the Money Ball Union

Sup guys!

This is Phil (Havana). I held out hope of a revival until the site went down, I was gutted. That league was awesome and so were the GMs. I randomly happened across an old, old WHBL topic on this forum, PM'd Qwerty75 to ask him about the story behind the closure and he directed me here.

I'd do anything to assist in a WHBL revival, or some kind of new league with the same ethos by some original GMs. Well... whatever.... I hope you guys are all doing great - I miss trash talking Jundogg! I'm still in South Korea doing my volunteering thing
