League based on 2008 MLB

I've never played OOTB before, and I've just joined a sim league that is based on 2008 MLB player statistics and simulated using this program. Assume I know nothing except baseball stats, and help me get a grasp on how those numbers will play out in this game.

My questions are these:

1) Does the simulator factor in splits like home/road, vs.lefty/vs.righty, etc. or are the ratings more standard like .avg, contact, power, speed, k/bb, which play out regardless of situation?

2) What are the ratings categories for pitchers? As I've looked around this forum, I've found mention of control, stamina, movement. Is there a comprehensive list? (for hitters too, please)

If there are any threads that address these issues which I may have overlooked, or any threads that you think would help me get a grasp of how player stats are translated into the sim, please let me know.

1) The game uses R/L splits, but not home/road.

2) Here's a good, comprehensive list of pitcher rating categories.
